Paint thinner on hood.......
Paint thinner on hood.......
My son went to go to work and someone poured what looks like paint thinner on his hood.
His car is black. Is there anything that can be done to restore it short of re-painting the hood?

He found it early this afternoon. I noticed something about it this morning, but it was dark. So, I guess since last night. Sorry no pics. I'm still at work. Any hope?
Clear coats are very durable, although susceptible to scratching very easily. Thinner may tend to soften the CC if left on for a prolonged period of time, but I would hesitate to think it will "melt" it off.....
Without pictures, Im afraid to even recommend a method of recovery./ You would be best left taking it to a pro to evaluate.

is the car turbo'd? what's witht he hood scoop? whatever was put on there stripped the paint right off. you need a new paint job w/o a doubt. that sucks, whoever did that is a fuckin loser!
Geez, someone was sure P.O'd. The car is not a TL. The car looks more like a Mustang.I could not give an opinion about the condition without actually feeling the paint. However, it does not look very promising from the pics. Try calling a local detailer and see what they think before you spend the $$$ on new paint.

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear about/see this. I've seen what brake fluid does to paint, and that looks consistent.
SweetJazz offered some great advice, and actually most body shops can probably offer an estimate to either repair (if possible) or repaint. Good luck on this. Probably too late for any tangible action, but it might not be a bad idea to file a police complaint as well.

Yes, this is a Mustang GT. The acid ate it down to the primer but not bare metal. Paint job for sure. No, it's not a turbo (fake scoop). Yea, whoever did this is a real loser, and a police report has been filed, insurance called. In a way this is good because he really need the front bumper repainted from all the rock chips. He just hates to pay the deductable.

The paint needs to cure in that time since car cannot be properly baked at high temperature after assembly. If wax is applied during the cure time, the paint might not cure properly as it is sealed and could also form small bubbles.

It will take out most if not all that marring and then add a very light polymer for protection until the paint is cured. The Megs #80, as with most of Meguiars Professional Line, is a body shop safe product meaning it can be used on fresh paint.

I'd rather let it cure first and then do a cut after to remove holograms and swirls and then using a sealant. Otherwise that perfect paint will be covered by water spots and what nots pretty quickly.
