Paint Protection Package

Did you guys get the paint protection on your TL ? My salesman
tried to tell me you'd never need to wax the car if you had this.
It seems to me like this is an overpriced dealer add-on, with little
or no benefit to the consumer.

Since I ordered the car, I told them I didn't want it. Did I make the
right decision?

Also, a while back there was an excellent thread that was a list of
everything you should check on the car, (VIN#, ELs number, etc.)
when you pick it up. I did a search but was unable to locate it.

Can anybody help ?

The dealer just called and said they may have my car for me at the end
of the month, so I won't need to wait until mid June. Yippee!

I'm getting Anthracite/Ebony/Navi/5AT . . . $33,695.

Don't do it. as cabal said, most are just sealant packages that only last for a limited time.

You can do the same thing yourself for much less and get better results since you can choose which sealant to use.

Check out the Autopia forum for help in this regard or PM me and I'll give you a list of stuff that will help you seal/take care off the paint.

Most definitely. It's what I used on my SSM. Pretty wet looking, almost carnauba like. Hard to say about durability since it's only been out for a couple of months but most expect 6-8 months.

The key is to clay, even if the car is new. Then seal. You don't want to seal in crap if you can help it.

Exactly. It cost them a few bucks in product and you can do a better job than they do.

In fact, I would ask the dealer not to detail your car when you take delivery. They'll most likley use a PC or rotary to detail your car, use some cheap wax, and in the hands of the unskilled, a PC/rotrary can actually do more harm than good.

Just take delivery, clay the car, polish if necessary, then seal. All steps are easy, you'll spend less on products than you would if you buy the 'protection package', and you'll be able to reapply coats whenever you want.

Some are quite good. My dealer offered me one where they'd wax the car every 6 months for 5 years. Don't remember what it cost. It's personal preference whether you want to do it yourself or have them do it. I have never heard of a "once and done" package. Could it be like this one where you get tix for free waxes?

even if my dealer offered to wax my car for free i would not do it. it will come back with swirl marks or scratches even. believe me we take care of our cars alot better than a dealer would ever. when i clean my car i am so careful with it so not to put one swirl mark on it. i can almost guarantee that the dealers do not claybar the car to remove all surface contaminates. when they dry the car they are not using microfiber towels. who knows what cheapo products they are using on the car.

Cost me under $30..

For a bottle of Wolfgang High Gloss Paint Sealant ($20), couple of microfiber applicators ($3) and about an hour to wash the car followed by application of sealant.

The salesman (actually delegated this to the "finance lady") tried to sell me the sealant job for $350 saying it normally cost $450.

Run Away! Run Away! There is NO SUCH THING as "Lifetime" sealant or wax or protectant. All the dealer add-ons are just scams aimed at people that want to believe that they won't have to deal with these things. They are also incredibly overpriced and super-profit-makers for the dealers.

The deal is that they BET that you will forget about it or sell the car before you come back to contest the warranty.

NO interior protectant (Go get some Scotchguard)
NO undercoating (Useless and has been known to CAUSE rusting).

I thought the sealant was a great idea so we bought it for our silverado SS, but it's been 6 months and we need to wax the truck already. I asked the acura dealer, that I bought the car from, if they would put the sealant on. He told me that their dealership doesn't even offer the sealant because it's just a wax job that they charge you $400 for. DON'T GET IT. IT'S NOTHING BUT A VERY EXPENSIVE WAX JOB.

Where exactly did you purchase the Wolfgang sealer from? I have NXT currently and am debating on "topping" it off with either a wax or a sealant. Thanks for the info.

Got it from Autogeek.net

Try the URL http://www.autogeek.net/wg5500.html..
Shipping is expensive ~7.95 but you get enough sealant to last you a few years.
