New paint job, when can I polish/seal/wax?

got a new paint job, was wondering on the appropriate wait time before i can polish/seal/wax the car. paint was baked in a booth and guy said i can do whatever i want to it whenever i want.

however, i read conflicting reports of people being told to wait a month, 2 months, 3 months, etc. for the paint to cure and breathe.

any suggestions or advice? would like to add some protectant before it gets too cold out.

thanks everyone.

Go with what the body shop says, with most of the new paints you can wax in little as 4 weeks.

Do you know what kind of paint was used? Specifically the manufacturer?

your body shop doesn't even know? every shop has after care instructions on aftermarket paint jobs. at least they should.

mine was 90 days. of course i waited longer. i just kept the car as clean as possible (garage or washed it). last thing you want is to ruin this eagerly awaited paint job of yours. if your shop says you can do whatever whenever...i'd wait a month or two. you have access to your mom's garage if you have to wait.

well he "knew" but i don't really trust his advice only bc i read so many conflicting answers.

i'll just take it easy until the new year i suppose. then get a coat of sealant on there and call it a day.

dont' worry about the paint too much...keep the car clean most of the time (sorry no car cover for the same amount of "cure" time), you'll be fine. the tailgate of my MDX had a respray last november...hated the fact winter was coming and my tailgate paint was going to be naked until the spring.

when i finally got around to it over 4 months later...it wasn't all that yucky (the clay bar came out clean). the TL...diffrent longer story...but i waited over 4 months to get at the resprayed panels (the car slept in the garage and still does ).

hope for a snowless winter and all will be fine.

^yeah i'll just keep doing the ONR when necessary for the time being. i guess it sort'of is what it is. not much i can do about it.

thanks for the advice.

yeah not much you can do...and it's not worth ruining the paint if you seal it too soon. of course you could try and go back to the shop if the paint bubbles. they'll try and blame you. you can always say...you guys said i could seal and wax it "whenever." this is assuming the work has a lifetime warranty against paint defects.

I don't see any problem using a spray wax or something like that, of course I am no professional. Try Optimum spray wax if you havent already. One of the easiest to use waxes I've ever tried.

What's your color, maybe I can give you more specific tips?

no wax! certain detail sprays ok. like meg's final inspection. meg's last touch diluted is questionably ok (per meg's rep on the meg's forum). other detail sprays are silicone based which are supposedly a no-no for fresh paint. you can use a glaze (but that doesn't have ANY protective qualities). if it's body shop safe, then you should be ok.

absolutely NO WAX products or sealants during the cure phase.

This!

It's definitely better to wait a while before doing anything but a mild wash (ONR is good). When I had my car painted the body shop told me about 30 days...so I added extra time on top of that just to play it safe.

It's just one of those things, better safe than sorry!

the carbon fiber was polished and recleared a different color, but still maintains the CF weave pattern.
