Unhappy New Car Delivery Prep Disappointment

I think had we not both been so anxious to accept delivery of our new ('08) TL last Friday evening that I would have rejected it and sent it back.

At most, the dealer rinsed it off and dried it, then sprayed that gosh-awful shiny (wet-look) tire dressing on everything under the hood and the tires too. That might be de-rigueur down in 'da hood' but I'm sorry, that's now how we do things on our side of town. I can clean that crap off the tires easily enough with my pressure washer, but what do I do under the hood?

The top surface of the hood, top and trunk lid all have a gritty feel to them and the drip ledge around the edge of the trunk is filthy and full of dirt. Ditto for the wheels. They wiped off (dried) the front surface of the wheels, but the inside of the rims haven't been touched and look bad.

Probably wouldn't take it back to that dealership, haha...I guess try the wash and wax section to see if those experts can help you out.

Cap'n,

Hell no...you deserve better service than that. Take your car back to the dealership and let them know how unhappy you are. You just purchased a high-end automobile. Point out everything you're not happy with and ask them to make it right.

THEN....never take your car back there unless you get satisfaction.

This a new car? Was it in a flood? Most car carriers now have a bit of protection for the car and they should't get that dirty during shipping this time of year.

I've bought cars in the evening and usually the wash shop is closed by then. My sales person will normally give me the option to leave the car so it will be cleaned in the morning or to bring it back for the clean/prep work. I'd take it back and get it done right.

Just be very careful if you take it back to them. The people working in their "detail department" are typically the lowest paid, least trained/skilled employees in the shop...regardless of how high end of a dealership it is. I've seen cars that cost as much as my house get totally hacked in either a new car prep or a service wash.

Acura paint is very soft, and therefore it gets damaged quite easily if not using proper wash/dry techniques and materials.

Best of luck.

I'm really not quite sure if you want to take it back. It might come back worse than when it went in. It's a tough decision. If it were, I'd just fix it myself but I'm not sure or not if you're capable of fixing it yourself either.

Whatever the case, best of luck to you.

Just detail it yourself if you can. I'd rather save myself the aggravation of

1) dealing with the dealer
2) having the dealer detail the car only for it to come back in worse condition

See if you can get the dealer to pay a pro detailer to properly detail the car???

I would set myself up with the right products, You have a wealth of information in front of you, as well as folks willing to help. You never hear the end of these misfortunes.
Do it yourself during a couple weekends, you'll be much happier and proud of your accomplishment. Just you, and the lady, maybe a glass or two of wine and some nice music! Ya never know where that will lead to! LOL

I had the same experience at that dealership when I bought my '06 RL. Took it back the following day, spoke to the Gen. Mgr. and they had a 'professional' detailer come out to the delaership to do the car. I was there when he arrived, watched closely until he was done - 4 hrs later.

ya' dealers don't really put much thought into the new cars. If you think about it, if your paying these guys minimum wage, I don't think they will put much effort into cleaning the car. They just use cheap towels to clean the car. You pretty much have to clean it yourself for better results.

lucky for me i didn't have a bad experience...but i had to wait 6 days for me to put my hands on my baby.

cause of the color of the car(vortex blue)..they had none in stock and they also had to install a few extra things like the the sport aerokit and wood dashboard kit.
in fact they were very excited to work on my car.
