meguiar's deep crystal paint cleaner. any good?

i "accidentally" applied this product not realizing that i prolly didnt need it in a brand new vehicle. dunno if this would cause any clearcoat damage but just checking to make sure. i just followed meguiar's 1-2-3 step but should have prolly read a bit more esp on a brand new vehicle... any thoughts? (i skipped deep crystal polish - step 2 and went straight to step 3). i read somewhere that the paint cleaner is actually a very mild ABRASIVE.

yet meguiars advertised it as non-abrasive. false advertising? i forgot the link but am sure it was a meguiar's person saying that it has very mild abrasive. (which run counter to what the company label had in the bottle/advertising)

btw, step 1 was paint cleaning, step 2 was polish and step 3 was wax. hence i did paint cleaning and wax. but no polish (step 2).

If they paint is in real good shape, you can certainly skip the polishing. The Step one is a non abrasive paint cleaner last I remember, all it does is exfoliate the top surface of the paint allowing better clarity. Absolutely clear coat safe.
Pay attention to your durability with step 3. Not known for any sustainable protection.

Be careful of what you read .. there is 10,000 experts out there that have never even used 1/2 the products. I'd be more inclined to trust Meguiars as they know that there is people out there that will be watching.

BTW I polish out all my new cars.

thanks excel. newbie in detailing here. how does "exfoliate" differ from polish? and based on your impression/experience, how durable is this thing? 2 weeks max? again, it's advertised at 2 mos "durability".

Maybe "exfoliate" wasnt the proper choice of words. The paint cleaner, cleans via chemical aggression and user applicator. There are no abrasives associated with a true paint "cleaner". If there were, it would be a "polish" imo.
In the essence of the word "exfoliate", the actual cleaning is due to the chemicals breaking down the dead paint, as well as the foam or terry applicator, the user is using for the job. (At this point, think of a bar of soap, as you wash your hands).
Polishing, using products containing abrasives, exfoliate via the abrasives, and the foam pad the user uses. The actual abrasives help remove the dead paint and/or swirls via physical properties of attrition, and the foam pad being used. (At this point, think of a bar of soap with apricot pit grindings, as you wash your hands).
You're lucky getting two months durability on a daily driver, with sun exposure, with just about any carnauba. I woud say 4-6 weeks tops, especially with a few washes in between.

k. thanks for the analogy. i guess key thing here is i didnt overdo it - i used a foam applicator (those freebie foam pads with no cut) to apply the paint cleaner and remove it while still "wet" as per the bottle instructions. as for wax, ive ordered collinite 845 - based on internet forums, these are the way to go - lemme know if durability increases or i just pretty much wasted $ by ordering one (then again, i figured it's not a waste since i plan to wax anyway and it saves me from buying a new bottle once this meguiar's is done)

845 is a good choice. You're probably good for several months. Apply two coats for optimum protection. Use a spray sealant once monthly to maintain slickness, and resistance to foreign objects adhesion.

I like Duragloss AquaWax or Optimum Spray Wax. Edge Optimum for slickness......
