Megs #83 or Optimum Polish?

Time to start learning to use the PC. Bought it a few months back and haven't really used it at all.

I'm trying to decide which polish to get - got my eye on the Meguiars #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish, and the Optimum Car Polish. Price wise, they're at the same point (I'm shopping on eshine.ca since they're in Canada) so I'm guessing they're about the same quality wise.

I have an 05 TSX (Nighthawk Black), and I've got some minor swirling. The car had been polished in the late winter (it was the "one step" polish and wax) and whatever they did seems to have worn off, since I see some minor swirling now as well as some scratches that were there from before. There are a few minor scratches in various places as well. I have an orange, white and black pad for the PC.

I also want to do my friend's 94 4 Runner as well, so I wanted something versatile that can do a slightly more swirled car (his) as well as a lightly swirled (mine) without having to switch products.

What do you think of those two products, or any other specific recommendations?

Your talking two different needs. Light swirling and anything other then light, will require an additional polish. Megs 83 is a heck of a lot more aggressive then OP. You may find middle ground with Optimum Compound though.....

So perhaps an Optimum Compound, followed by the Optimum Polish might be a better choice?

I'm just reading the description on eshine.ca and it was saying that it described Optimum Compound as an "aggressive abrasive compound", which was why I shyed away from it.

I think I'll go for the Optimum compound as kind of a general purpose. I still have a bottle of the Megs Swirl Remover lying around that's about half used. I'll just give it a go over with it after the Optiumum compound to give it a smoother finish...

perfect!

Might as well finish the product I've already got.

Thanks again Patrick. Always helpful as usual.

Megs #83 followed by #80 is a fantastic combination in preparation for topping the paint with your choice of sealant.
