Leaf blower

I finally got out and bought a leaf blower to dry my car. Damn, it works well. I still went over the car with a micro-fiber towel, but the majority of the water was blown off.

Definitely a good investment.

It's a Toro... CHEAP, like 30 bucks... one speed. I saw the ones that get up to 215mph. I didn't see the need...

Mine gets up to 140mph and does the job just fine.

what's all the todo with these micro-fiber towels, and where do you get them? I thought all you really needed are the 100% made in USA cotton towels?

Mine blows the air at 120MPH and it works GREAT.
I only paid like 30 bucks for it at Home Depot.

There were larger unit there, but I really wouldn’t go TOO nuts with the 200+ MPH units or you might start pealing the window trim off the car.

I probably could use a bit more power when doing the wife’s RAV4.
That roof rack is a royal PAIN IN THE ASS to get dry.
I resorted to digging out my old “Absorber” to finish the job.
But as long as you don’t drive the thing right away it dries off completely.

Yeah, the blower won't completely dry the car (at least in my first experience), so it's nice to have an absorber or a couple towels lying around to finish the job. But for the most part, chamois, absorbers and other drying devices are pretty much history for me.

If you have a fresh coat of ZAINO on there you will get 99.9999% of the water off.
Especially if you used the Z-6 spray the last time you detailed it.
It takes me about 20-minutes, but I don’t have to touch the car with anything else when I’m done.

The only thing I need to do by hand every time with the absorber is the door jambs and under the trunk lid where the air blast doesn’t get.

Oops, I just saw that you use that Blackfire stuff. That could explain part of the problem.
Not to SLAM, but NOTHING is slipperier then ZAINO.

Does Zaino "bead" water? BlackFire sheets water off, so the water lies real flat on the paint, which makes it a bit more tricky than say a carnuba which beads water.

However, it does come off pretty easily. I'm just not patient enough to get every last drop off.

And damn it, BlackFire is slippery!!!! :pfawk:

Its hard to wash my car because of Zaino.....the water and soap barely stays on long enough for me to put the wash mit down and grab the hose!!!

Yea, I guess you could say that ZAINO makes the water “bead up”.
But like Nicky said, it only “sticks” on the flat surfaces, not the sides of the car.

huh

i've been using mine for a month now and absolutely LOVE it...i take my sweet lil time and go over the surface nice and light...i fold it up like it is packaged and simply turn it a lil after each pass to get a dry area

perhaps yer pushing too hard

granted, my method takes a long time, but it's worth it b/c i'm not pressing down hard enough to cause scratches and not blowing sh!t all over the car

sorry, i'll reaffirm my pessimistic stance on the leaf blower

Bump.

Got one of these last week to help dry off the BMW. This car has more nooks and crannies than a Thomas' English Muffin!

Made a HUGE difference!

Wireless?

Drying is a royal pain in the ass for me, the one thing I hate about washing cars. Looks like the blower does a good job, just gotta get one that I can use in an underground garage.

Wonder if this would work with ONR?

I wouldn't use one anywhere where there is dust and underground parking is a great place for dust.

I don't think it would work with ONR as the drying towel is also picking up some of the dirt off the car.

I have a dedicated one I use ONLY when I am doing a full detail just to get out as much hidden water as I can.

I also find the blower leaves behind micro beads of water that if not dried right away leave spots you have to QD off. Soon as I have to QD I might as well dry the normal way.

Didn't think about the dust, thanks for that.

Isn't ONR designed to get the dirt to stick to whatever wash media you have?

Yeep but because your not rinsing the car ( flooding it off ) your not removing the stuff in the nooks & crannies and the leaf blower will dislodge it and blow it out on the surface.

It gets used a lot.
A backpack blower is much easier when it comes to yardwork.
