How to remove fine scratches?

I have fine scratches in the clear coat of the door panel. They were caused by my door bumping into a plastic garbage can in my garage every time I opened it during the winter. I did not notice it until the first time I washed the car in the springtime. They are very fine scratches that run vertically about an inch or two and are closely spaced together. I figure there must be a way that I can buff them out myself. Can anyone recommend a product/method to do this?

I would try meguiars scratch x I've used it before and it works well on fine scratches but won't do anything on deep scratches

I just purchased some Mequiar's NXT today and it states "Eliminates fine scratches and swirls. When it ever quits raining I will give it a try. It actually states that it fills in those fine scratches that are so common with clear coat paints.

As ron said, NXT fills in the scratches. It doesn't actually remove them. Scratch X has worked for me on other cars to remove scratches.
