how often do you wax?
I was wondering how often people wax? Every 3 months or 2 times a year? Does it help prevent chips and scratches from rocks and stuff on the road?
I use Mother's 100% carnuba. I like it because it is clearish in color, so if there some gets on anything black, it doesn't turn white like most white waxes.

I don't wax too often.... it's usually only during the summer months. I prefer using sealants (about once every 2 or 3 months) since they offer more/longer protection.
Because wax evaporates, it doesn't hold up as well/long (unless we're talking about Collinite 476 or 845). A regular carnauba wax will usually be gone in a month.
And to answer your question... No, a wax won't prevent chips or scratches.
You wax to protect your paint from the elements.

I reapply sealant once a quarter (3 months). Nubas (anywhere from 6-8 weeks tops) don't have the durability of a synthetic wax. Waxes protect the paint from the environment but not prevent scratches and chips. Carnuba based waxes are a blend of chemicals and oils and contain roughly 30% carnuba wax. Here's an article written by David Bynum about Carnuba Waxes.

Ah, but then you have never used Zaino then have you?
go to www.zainobros.com and learn how good it is without using any kind of wax. The polish is a polymer that bonds to the paint and makes it incredibly beautiful.

I use the Z-5, Z-2, Z-7, Z-6. I was with the Z-7 and then alternate the Z-5 and Z-2, mostly Z-5 to clean it up and probably every other wash use the Z-2. Both I mix with the ZFX so that it doesn't take me all day. Between washes I use the Z-6 to give it a quick shine
Z-5 is a cleaner with fillers and all it does is "hide" imperfections. You'll eventually have to use an abrasive to eliminate/remove surface imperfections cause fillers can only hide so much and will wear away after couple of washes. Because of the clarity of Zaino, the surface needs to be free of imperfections. As with any other product, surface prep IMO is the key factor to achieving the best results.
TRY to wax every 3 months. I've been putting it off because of water restrictions since September
I can/do wash it at pay places. I bring along necessary tools but I just don't feel like I do a great job at it there as I would at home. I don't rinse as often as I normally do because I am not going to pay more than necessary.
I'm detailing it this weekend though
(actually praying for it NOT to rain Friday and Saturday)
Wash
Clay
Polish
Wax (usually try to do two coats on the front end of the car, windshield forward)

Clay and polish out in the spring and anywhere up to 10 layers of sealant .. depends on what I feel like and what combinations I use. Usually Z2 x ? then Klasse SG x ? to get the look I want ( I know .. diminishing results after 4 layers ) then I top with #16.
I'll add #16 throughout the spring, summer and fall. Usually before I have a show to go to.

I wanted to try that product and it looks like it comes in liquid and paste form...is one preferrable to the other?
I'll use a sealant like 4 times a year but I put a coat of Duragloss Aquawax on everytime I wash. It's seriously like the easiest quick wax to use. You can either dry your car and use one spray per panel or spray each panel once while your car is wet and then dry it. Not to mention its only like 8 bucks a bottle from exceldetail and it will last forever since you dont need alot.

2x a year I strip everything off the car and clay it completely. Wheels come off, full underbody wash, the works. If the car has swirls/spider webs I will bust out my UDM with Sonus swirl buster and go over the entire car. Then top with Ultima Paint Guard Plus.
I try to wash the car every week, if the weather doesn't permit, I wash when I can. I then ALWAYS top with another coat of UPGP. It's the best stuff I have ever used. The shine, and protection are unbeatable. A 4oz bottle usually lasts me about a year. $35 a pop.
If anyone wants some info on PGP check this link out.

Chris, Im not baggin on you. I just wonder why unbeatable protection needs to be applied so frequently?
Crap I better change over to UPGP... seems like the Klasse & Zaino I use has no durability.. Nor has the #21 that I use ...
