How Much for Buffing to Remove Small Scratches??

Hello,
I have a question. How much do you guys think it will cost to have an Acura TSX buffed to remove sctaches? My Black TSX has a few loong scratches along the side but it has not reached the paint. I have gotten an estimate which was 50 dollars and I am wondering if that is about right? The two thin but long scratches is on the right side of my car only. DO You guys think that this is about right?

Sounds reasonable. I had some really deep scratches (through the clear coat and into, but not through the base colour coat) on my hood buffed out by a detailing pro and he charged me CAD$65. I think it took him a couple hours. The marks were barely visible at all afterward. Just sort of a 'wobble' in the paint if you looked at the right angle. Got covered in 3M film anyway, so it's completely invisible now.

ARRGG.. a "wobble?" because these scratches are baarely visible. they are very long but in order to see them your eyes would have to be about 2-3 feet from the ground. Do you think that it is worth it to get it because i thought that you would not notice anything afterwards.

If your scratches are light and not down to the primer you should goto the local Auto store and pick up some of "Meguiars ScratchX" (Do a google search for more product info). Do a small part of the scratch and see if it comes out.

I had a black car before my Black TSX. If the scratch is below the clearcoat meaning you see a clear white line, the paint was more than likely scratched off.

I think Majormojo got the wobble in his paint because his scratches were deep. When they buff a compound its like smearing the paint to cover up the scratches and then even it out. Sorry about slow response time (Home modem is only a 56K).

Yes, they were deep and had very sharp edges. Maybe wobble wasn't the best word. It wasn't like a wrinkle or a dent. You have to know where they are, get down at the right angle and really look hard to see anything at all. Buffing can only do so much, it can't replace material that is missing (that would be a paint job...), only smooth over the damage.

There is a place around me that will machine buff the outside for like 70 bills - US dollars.

yea.. do you guys think it would be better to just get the whole car buffed? or just have the right side buffed? If i buff the whole car, will it look new again? If i just buff the right side will i be able to tell the difference?

Also. What if the scratch has not reached the paint, just the clearcoat. Does that mean when i get it buffed out it will not have a wobble effect because the paint was not smeared?

NO don't get the whole car buff because you have scratches on one part of the car. I don't think you will get the wobble effect, if the scratches aren't deep. Just be sure to wax and clearcoat that part because the buffing is going to take off the clearcoat on that side.

Scratches and swirl marks were KILLING me on my black TSX so I bought an orbital polisher, pads and polish and got busy. I used Einzatt Metallic and ran the polisher at very low speed - carefully. I was pretty satisfied with the results. The swirls weren't completely gone but it looked much better - and still does almost 2 months later. In another month or so I'll run the polisher again, this time upping the speed. Not to overly shill for this guy, but I went through Autopia.com and invested in the Porter Cable unit. Pretty simple to use but there is a bit of a technique. Good luck.
