Rock Chips

Chances are your insurance will pay to have it done even if you have a comprehensive deductible. Then a professional can do it for free with your nice car why risk it with a home remedy??

I have a couple of these too, but have been "living" with it for a couple months. Won't my premium go up if I do an insurance claim though? I don't want this to affect my insurance since I can live with it.

Damn rock!

Yeah, I got one this morning...pretty upset why I chose that lane on the freeway....

I am either thinking to use these two. Any advise which will perform better for HAND POLISHING? Or without polishing machine it will just be useless?

Autoglym Car Glass Polish
Zaino Z-12

I sort of hoped that windshield will crack, then I will get my insurance to replace it for $100 deductible, which will not affect my premium...but I don't think they will fix a small chip that I just simply can't live with

If you have a small crack and you want to prevent the crack from growing you can slow it down with a little bit of crazy glue. This is a temporary fix till you get the cash or time to get the windshield replaced. Simply apply a small amount of LIQUID (not gel or anything else) to the crack and hopefully there is enough space for the glue to seep in to the crack. If you apply too much you'll have an ugly blurry spot on your windshield. Just a little goes a long way.

This is the only DIY thing I've ever seen. I've never used it or know if it works or not.

$30? Dang, why's the simple stuff have to be so expensive? Another thing that'll just have to wait.

Got one of these, too. I love Winter.

As usual its A) right in my sight line and B) too small for one of the traditional fixes. Its about the size of a pinhead, IF that. Only on the glass surface.

In the past with surface chips this small, the "repairs" both by a pro and DIY just dont work becuase the chip is too small for the resin to fill the hole and cure properly.

So....does that glass polish work? Any other methods to at least reduce the "noticeability" of the chip?

I know this may sound weird but if it is a very small chip you might try a black sharpie. I know... black on your glass! Well when the sun shines through the chip it refracts light and the little chip lights up and is very noticeable. A black sharpie will prevent the light from coming through and it will be less noticeable. I chipped a pair of sun glasses very close to the line of sight. After I hit it with a sharpie it really cut down on the light coming through it, in fact there was no light coming through. Granted you can notice the black dot if you look, but it is far less obvious. After awhile it will erode away and you have to touch it up again.

No, youre EXACTLY right. Its the light refraction that makes it so darn noticeable. Might try this. Also might try a bit of glass polish.

Just updating this....

Used the "Fix-a-Windshield" kit with nice results for those very small chips.

http://www.amazon.com/Fix-A-Windshie.../dp/B000EA5WLS

Found this kit easier and with better results than Permatex for the very very small surface chips. After using the kit, the chip IS still visibile. But instead of a shiny, light reflecting distracting chip, its been reduced to a semi-transparent blemish that appears like a small piece of dirt or a water spot. MUCH easier to live with.
