Hologram effect after using the PC

I tried my new PC for the first time a couple of weeks back and recently noticed the "hologram" effect left by the polisher. Although I didn't notice it at the time the work was done, it was pretty obvious when you looked at the hood under the sun light.

I prepped the 05 DGP surface with a wash and clay bar and then applied Mothers Cleaner/Carnuba with the PC set at 2. I used a red W-7008 Mequairs pad.

Did I miss a step or use the wrong pad/wax?
What is the correct speed setting for the PC?
Should I have followed up with a second coat of something on a finer pad?
Where did I go wrong?

I am hoping that the condition can be corrected and any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

If I remember right, the Megs Red is a cutting pad, yellow is a light cut and beige is the finishing pad. You'll probably need to use a light polishing pad with a mild polish to clean it up. Speedwise, 2-3 for waxes/sealants, 3-4 for cleaners, 5-6 for polishes.

Oh boy, I will say ya missed a step for sure! That Megs burgundy pad is indeed a cutting pad, and one of the more aggressive pads available. That cleaner wax is nothing more then that, just a paint cleaner with minimal Nuba protection.

In order for you to remove that hazing/marring, your going to need an actual polish now, and a polishing pad. I would recommend two steps as theres no telling how much swirl was introduced at this point. I would opt for Optimum Compound, with an Orange Erasure, then follow up with Optimum Polish, with either the Orange or White Erasure. The Optimum polishes and pads are available at my site in 4oz, 8oz or 32 oz sizes.
Toss the Megs #6, and put some true protection on there like Surf City Nano Seal or Four Star UPP, or 1Z Glanz wax......OR
Use a Yellow Megs pad for that cleaner/wax, then expect about 4-5 weeks protection, or about 3 washes worth......

Meguiars definitely does not recommend use of the burgundy pad with a PC. It is way too aggressive. I am not familiar with the Mothers Cleaner/Wax but the protection it provides will be minimal. Cleaner/Wax products will usually require a real protection coat as stated by Exceldetail and Hawhyen51. I have had good results using a Cleaner/Wax and a lake country orange light cut pad on speed 5. I then top it with 1-2 coats of a sealant or wax.

Ooops!

Another option is since you're in SoCal, maybe you can take your car to excel for a correction.

Just a thought.

sorry if i go off topic a little, but where is patrick located specifically in SoCal? does he have service in detailing? cause i really DO NOT trust any detailers in my area. i had my car clay bar once and they left some clay in the corners and they are now permanent.
