High Pressure Washer

Re those self-serve hi-pressure washing places - is there a minimun "safe" distance between the paint surface and nozzle one is supposed to keep when opearting - so not to cause damage , assuming CHIPLESS surface ?

I'd like to know this too.

Also, has anyone bought a pressure washer?
I'm just talking about a standard one that plugs into your garden hose. They run like $75-$150. Just wanna get input from others.

Unless you drive your car through mud bogs on a daily basis, I really dont see the need for a high pressure washer. I dont even use a nozzle on my hose when I wash my car. I just let the water splash on.

I would bet though, if you had a chip on your car somewhere, and you put the high presure nozzle too close, its going to be a bigger chip.

Theres quite a bit of hype and fear about using hi-pressure nozzles/adapters/washers on vehicles. I personally dont see what the issue is, just use common sense, keep it at least 24" from the surface and your ok to go. I would rather blast off the dirt and debris then to just wet it and "scrub" it off. I think its perfectly safe if your using common sense. If it hurts your hand, your probably too close.....

If the pressure is strong enough to blast off dirt, then its strong enough to blast off any protection you have on it.

Its not the water or pressure removing the protectant, its the soaps......Just keep a safe distance, youll be fine....If water is removing your protection, you should find something a little more durable.....

i used my 2800psi pressure washer. jus widen the water angle n keep ur distance. its the fastest way to get the brake dust off the wheels. i get lazy and sometimes just use the pressure washer n do a quick wash. love that thing

Live in the snow zone , got a 1600 pressure washer to get the salt off . Hold it about a foot from car , using nozzile on wide spray . This can be adjusted to get the right amount of force you want . I am not trying to wash the car , just get the salt off, also spray up under wheel wells. This does a fairly good job without getting your hands wet.

This is a bunch of crock. Pressure hose will not take any type of wax or paint protection off.

So what do you want, no protection (As your worried about) or "nasty stuff the drity snow/slush, the salt, bird poop...etc "
I gurantee you, the bird poop and salt will remove your protection faster than a high pressure washer !

I dont have a problem with any of that crap. I have a bottle of Z6 in the car for the bird poop. If your waiting until you fully wash your car to get bird poop off, that could be a problem, protection or not.
