future Tl owner in need of help and suggestions

Hello everyone, new to the forum here. I plan on getting a 2009 TL Grigio metallic with ebony interior in the next few months. I’m currently getting together a wish list for all the detailing supplies I’ll need, and so far this forum has been a great help. These are the steps I gathered so far

1)Wash and rinse
2)Clay Bar
3)Apply cutting polish to remove swirls
4)Apply finishing polish
5)Apply sealant
6)Apply wax
7)Apply glaze

Now steps 5,6, and 7 are the ones that I’m not sure of the order…can someone help me please. Also if I’m missing something from my wish list please let me know

Wish list:
Chemical Guys Citrus Wash
Tons of MF towels
Grit guard for buckets
Halogen lights
Porter Cable 7424XP
Orange pad -for step 3
White pad maybe -for step 5, step 6
Black pad -for step 4, step 7
Meguairs clay bar kit
Meguairs ultra cut compound M105 or Optimum compound II– for step 3 (cant decide, a lil help please?)
Meguairs ultra finishing M205 – for step 4
Chemical guys extreme EZ-crème glaze with acrylic shine II – for step 7
Optimum poli-seal – for step 5
Mequiars quick interior detailer – for interior
303 aerospace protectant -for interior rubber and vinyl
Leatherique prestine clean – for seats
Chemical guys grime reaper – for tires and engine bay
Chemical guys fade 2 black
Optimum metal polish – for wheels
Black wow – for trim
(my windows will be tinted, so I need a suggestion for a good cleaning product for that)

Sorry for the long post…as u can see i'm very serious about this..its just I’m trying to gather all the components I need so I can start getting them little by little. Oh and Detailed Image, be expecting a lot of orders from me Thanks

it's actually glaze, sealant, wax. glaze fills in cracks, sealant goes on top for lasting protection, wax on top of that for wetness and depth.

i've tried most of those products and can recommend them as good choices. i dont think you'll actually "need" to do the heavy compounding with the orange pad on a brand new car unless its used or the dealership blows (which they tend to).

meguiars has an ultimate protectant coming out soon that you can also use for interior rubber and vinyl. i haven't been blown away by 303, there are times it streaks on my dash but its better than some of the greasy stuff out there.

as far as windows i only use Stoners Invisible Glass. I like the spray and the foam varieties.

I'm no pro, but here are my

Like stated before, since it's a newer car, you may not need the Orange pad/Compound at first. It would be better to start with the least aggressive approach first to see what results you get and then step up the pad, then polish/compound if necessary.

The white pad does have some abrasives to it, so I wouldn't use it with a sealant/wax. I would use the white pad with a polish/finishing polish or the compound.

I would use a black pad with the sealant/wax/glaze. Or even a red pad for the sealant/wax.

It looks like you've been doing some good research and have nailed a lot of the products you want to use already.

For the glaze, sealant and wax, you'd want to go in that order. You use the glaze after polishing but before the wax. The CG EZ Creme glaze is a great option because it works well with sealants since it's acrylic based. EZ Creme Glaze will add a layer of depth and gloss to your finish and properly prep your paint so your sealant has a nice surface to bond to.

If you're going to perform a separate finishing polish and a sealant, you are better off using something that's not an all in one product as your sealant, stick with a dedicated paint sealant. OPT Opti-Seal would be a better option than Poli-Seal. Another great sealant to look at would be the Blackfire Wet Diamond.

The Meg's 2 step combo of M105 / M205 would be able to tackle almost all of your imperfections despite how deep they are. They are two very versatile products. To get the most out of them on a PC, I'd recommend following this Meguiar's polishing guide.

You're going to want to invest in a few pads in each color. Using a single pad can over saturate a pad with product, make it difficult to clean and can lead to dusting or messy clean ups. If you want a little more bite, consider using 5.5" pads with the Meguiar's W67DA backing plate.

For your tinted windows, I'd recommend either Chemical Guys Window Clean or Stoner Invisible Glass. Both products do a great job cleaning windows, safe for tint and don't streak when applied properly.

You're certainly off to a great start. If you need any other suggestions or input, please do not hesitate to ask. Also, if you haven't read already, check out this complete guide on detailing an Acura TL.

Be sure to keep us posted on how things turn out once you get a chance to finalize your order and put everything to use!

i have a gray metallic and i really like Chemical Guys Pete's 53 Black Pearl Signature Wax. really when picking out a wax you need to say what color your car is and how much money you want to spend on a wax. they can be as cheap as 15 bucks or as expensive as 2000 bucks.
