Four Star UPP

So, I finally bought a bottle of FourStar UPP from Pat at Exceldetail. I've always heard how great it is, so I wanted to try for myself.

My typical full detail on my CG TSX is SSR1 or 2, Klasse AIO and top it with S100. Where would UPP fit in this? Do I sub it for the sealer or the wax? If I sub for AIO, do I still top with S100?

Any methods or suggestions regarding the use of UPP would be great.

Joe, I would use it in place of the AIO. IMO, AIO is known more for it's cleaning ability than as a protectant. You can top it with a 'nuba, your choice. I would let it cure, then make an assessment if you like the look or not.

Yea, thats usually why I would keep a coat of S100 on top. AIO is pretty darn durable though. I've found that even if I didnt top it with S100 or SG, it would still last a good 3 to 5 months no problem.

I guess I'll try it then by itself after a polish.

Joe, give it two coats about a day apart. Looks like we're for some better weather now!

There is a large benefit with 2 coats of UPP. Make sure the first coat cures, guess heat and sun help a lot. Long cure at low temp and high humidity.

Enjoy the slickness for a week or two, then top with carnuba to add depth on the shine

Don't know if you can do UPP on top of AIO. For best results the UPP needs a sterile surface, the 4* paint cleanser works effortless, if you don't need to polish.

Easy product, by hand, each step is no harder than a quick detailer. The key is to get the car clean and polished first.

One trick i learned over the years Ive been using UPP is, after you have removed it, set the car in the sun for 10 minutes or so. The warmth allows the oils to thin and this allows for a more thorough removal. Then use a plush microfiber towel to suck those oils up! A more thorough removal allows less dust attraction/adhesion. And less of that would make us all a little happier, plus extends that first "after wax" wash.

Hmmmm, is it really a bitch to remove if you dont do this? If so, that kinda sucks. AIO is a cinch to remove, same with S100...I like products that are easy to remove.

Joe, UPP is the easiest product youll ever come across to remove. The above trick is jut an additional tip. Some folks lay it on too thick, and this is one remedy. As for removal? If you breathe hard enough, it will wipe itself clean, its that easy.
Another quick tip, put on just enough to realize its presence. Anymore is a waste.

Do most of you apply the UPP by hand or with a PC? I did a detail of my car at the end of March with products I bought from Patrick. Washed, clayed, washed, polished with 4* LCC & White Pad, then UPP with green pad. Wasnt' a great day weather wise that I did it. Probably should have used the orange pad with the LCC. Also, if anyone else uses the 4* LCC, what would you say is your average working time for it with the PC? I don't think I allowed it to work on the paint long enought. All in all pretty happy with my first detail with the PC and actual products. And sorry, wasn't able to get any pics....Don't rip me to bad! Thanks for the help everyone.

I apply UPP with the PC, not with a green pad, but a gray one as there is no reason to use an abrasive pad.

Havent tried LCC yet, been using Optimum.

i apply it by hand with MF applicator pads from patrick.

i do my work in my apt parking lot that luckily has a hose and vacuum setup. i'm not fortunate enough to have a garage nearby like some of you

also i use 4-star UPP as my wax.

patrick: so you're saying after you first wipe off the UPP you sit in the sun for 10 minutes, then wipe the car down again?

What speed do you use on the PC?
