Foam Cannons?

Okay, So I really want to start using one. Looks like it makes washing easier and seems like it would keep my pad's well lubed and help me cut down on swirls with the NBP.

I just don't think I can get one to work with my cheap-o pressure washer that I have.

I have seen some of the foamers for regular hoses, but do they really give off enough foam or is it just a big waste of wash/soap?

I bought a gilmour one from amazon. It works great with a regular hose and you can adjust the amount if foam you need.

Does it waste a lot of product though? Looking at some of the other pressure washer style cannons it would appear you add about 8-12oz of product and it seems you typically will use it all up for a whole wash?

They don't use any more soap than you would use to wash the car 1-2 oz. My problem is once you spray the car you can't tell where you have washed from areas that are just soapy. If you spray the car off first, the foam doesn't stick and if you spray foam straight on a dirty car I feel like I'm doing more damage than a reg wash.

You don't use much more than you usually would use. It makes washing my car much faster.

My issue is the connection doesn't fit my pressure washer and I don't know that I want to invest in another pressure washer just for that lol.

Andy, what's your car look like after using the foamer for the regular hose? Does it look at all like that or no?

I can get plenty of foam with a regular hose. The gilmour one allows you to adjust the level of foam you desire.

OP - Are you sure none of the attachments will work for your pressure washer? My first pressure washer was some generic 1400psi and I found the appropriate connecting piece. There is a variety of at least 5 attachments for connecting the foam cannon.

From the videos I've seen on youtube, the gilmour doesn't come close in terms of foaming or cling that a foam cannon can provide. Even with a low powered pressure washer I still get decent foam. The videos on youtube all show the gilmour as runny and don't really produce a shaving cream consistency.

Here is a shot using a couple ounces of soap. I've gone upward to 8-10 ounces in the bottle before and it clung like crazy.

From that youtube video, keep in mind they don't mention how much soap they use and what pressure washer they're using.

Also, here is the foam produced from my upgraded pressure washer:

Is there an alternative to the Gilmour that you would recommend for a regular hose?

Sorry not sure what else would produce foam with a regular hose.

I'm currently using this one:

http://www.homedepot.ca/product/hydr...-washer/916019

User reviews aren't great but I've had awesome success with it. Just make sure to purge out all the water form the lines after you're done every time and put it away when temperatures start to freeze. What really drove me to buy this one is the "hydrosurge" feature. This isn't a typical PW and has two hoses with two nozzles. One is the high pressured one while the other is standard pressure you would get from a garden house. This makes rinsing a car so much faster since you can have both nozzles going on at the same time.

not complaining about how much it costs.
just wondered if there was a cheaper alternative.

i dont detail cars for a living.
its kinda hard to justify spending that much money on a hose attachment that id use prob once every 2 weeks at the most.

I wasn't complaining about the cost either, lol. I actually found it pretty cheap compared to the foam cannons for pressure washers.

What I thought vinsanity meant by his comment was that we shouldn't be cheap and buy the Gilmour one's but buy a pressure washer with the corresponding foam cannon instead.

if you have power washer with quick connect attachment then home depot has foam cannon atachment for that

if you dont have quick connect then they have adaptors for most power washers but thats another $25 or so. cannon attachment is about $18 and you can adjust mix ratio

foam kinda depends what shampoo you using and what dilution with water

Foam cannon is far better than the foam gun you use attached by the hose. Foam cannon is pretty kick azz..makes washing the car so fun and easy. You can use the pressure washer to do other things as well like clean your drive way and garage.

its good idea to power wash the car before using wash mit. this way you wash off more dirt that can couse swirls. specialy on soft honda paint. its almost impossible to keep mine scratch free, hope cquartz goes on soon
