Foam Cannon Review: AutoGlos vs MTM Hydro

As some of you may know from my "The Time Has Finally Come" thread, I recently got a new foam cannon from a friend of mine. He calls it "AutoGlos Cannon"...... Well last night I had a chance to use and compare these two cannon to see if there really is a difference, everything I used is as follows:

PW: Karcher 5.85M
Bottle: MTM Hydro's bottle because it provided measurements
Injector/Aerator from the AutoGlos unit
Injector/Aerator from the MTM Hydro unit
Soap: Optimum soap
Both were dispensing soap at the exact same setting: MAX!
Dilution ratio: Filled to the 200ml mark with soap, filled it up to 800ml with water. Shaken thoroughly for the best mixture possible

Here is the AutoGlos on an EvoX:

The initial foaming process:

After letting it dwell for a few minutes:

This is after letting it dwell for a good 7 minutes or so:

Here is the MTM Hydro on an EvoIX:

During the initial foaming process:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/detailmaniac/7066737495/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/detailmaniac/6920658756/
After letting it dwell for LESS THAN 1 MINUTE:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/detailmaniac/7066739503/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/detailmaniac/6920660700/
MTM Hydro was so disappointing I refoamed the car with AutoGlos again:

During foaming:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/detailmaniac/7066740365/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/detailmaniac/6920661858/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/detailmaniac/7066741345/
I let it dwell for a few minutes:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/detailmaniac/6920662354/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/detailmaniac/6920662608/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/detailmaniac/7066742097/
As you can see, the AutoGlos did much, much better than MTM Hydro. I'm so disappointed with my MTM Hydro I'm just going to sell it to a friend of mine. It's not even back up worthy to me, lol. My buddy is going to find a different bottle with measurements on it so I won't have to use the MTM Hydro bottle as it doesn't quite fit. From speaking to him earlier, he said he may do a group buy if there is enough interest in the cannon, so I guess we'll have to see how that turns out.

Objectively, could the difference in the foam sticking for a longer duration have to do with the condition of the paint on the two different cars..... if you want a true comparison you need the same CONSTANT in any test-which in your case would be the first car.

Id say redo the test with the same car then repost.

cheers.

That's not what this test is about, this test was about how well each cannon produced thick, rich foam. MTM Hydro produced this running looking foam that didn't adhere to the surface very well. AutoGlos produced a nice thick foam, similar to shaving cream, that clung to the surface much better.

The main point of washing a car, especially doing a maintenance wash, is to not touch it. The more you touch it, the more chance you have at marring the paint accidentally. By using a pressure washer with foam cannon, you're hoping that majority of the dust/grime is pulled off as the soap drips down, and it further decrease the chance of marring when you pressure rinse everything off. it's a pre-caution step to the traditional 2 bucket wash.

No, he doesn't have a retail site. He prefers people emailing & calling so he can give you one on one recommendations vs buy random things you might not need.

So you need a pressure washer for this? So you saturate with soap let it sit and rinse ?

I actually had the Gilmour foam up decent once..... Had extra soap laying around so instead of dilution it with water, I filled the entire bottle with soap, lol.

Yes, you do. You let it sit and as the foam drips down slowly, it takes dirt with it, so when you actually do a traditional 2 bucket wash, there's less of a chance to mar the finish
