Talking First detail on my baby: '02 EBP TL-S (pic heavy)

Hey guys,

I'd like to share with you a great accomplishment of mine. I recently had the chance to put my hundreds of dollars
of detailing supplies to good use and make my baby look as new as possible again.

I spent approximately 24 hours over 3 days working on my TL in the garage. I had some pretty bad defects and swirls (the pics don't do them justice), so I decided that I needed to compound. This is a full exterior detail that includes a 3 stage machine polish.

Alright, onto the process and pics

Wash:
- 2 bucket method with grit guards
- 2 Eurowow sheepskin mitts (1 for upper, 1 for lower parts of car)
- 1 microfiber mitt for my wheels
- wheel spoke brush and tire scrub brush
- CG Hyper Concentrated Shampoo with extreme suds II
- p21s wheel cleaner
- 2 Meguiar's WW water magnet drying towels

Clay:
- Riccardo Original Yellow Clay
- Riccardo Clay Lubricant

Polishing:
- PC 7424 DA polisher with 5" backing plate
- Compounding stage: Megs 105 with LC PFW pad
- Medium polish (to remove minor hazing): Menz IP with LC orange pad
- Final polish for gloss: Menz 85RD on LC white pad

I didn't have any IPA to do wipe downs, but after compounding I did wash again to remove dust and residue (which there was a fair amount)

Final wipe down with Optimum ID (love this stuff!) and MF before LSP

LSP and final details:
- Optimum Opti-Seal misted on and spread with a MF
- Meguiar's tire gel (2 layers)
- Poorboy's Natural Look Dressing on trim and rubber
- CG tint safe glass cleaner to wipe down windows

Okay now that you know how I did it here's a few before pics:

The hood:

The roof:

Passenger door

Under the lights:

After claying the hood:

That's all for before pics (didn't want to waste time on them)

And for the best part, here's the after pics. Let me just say that for my first true detail I am INCREDIBLY pleased with the results.
I was able to remove almost all the swirls and defects, as well as bringing back the gloss and sparkle in my paint.
Other than the rock chips and a few RIDS she looked new again
(And to anyone who notices, I have replaced the ball seat lugs with black aluminum acorn seat lugs)

I would like to thank everyone who gave me product advice and a special thanks to Todd for the excellent advice
on how to use Megs 105. Todd your process worked brilliantly and made a novice like me feel like a pro. Thank you.

And the money shot before the sun started going down:

Thanks for looking

Excellent turn around on that detail. The paint went through quite the transformation. Now the fun part, maintaining the vehicle properly so it stays looking like that for as long as possible.

Enjoy!

Awesome job! I bet it re-ignited your passion for the car all over again like when you first got it! How many times do you turn around and look at the car now when you park it somewhere? ha..ha..! I bet it turns heads! Nice work!

Looks great, well done! I'm actually having a buddy of mine do mine next weekend because I too am tired of all the swirls in my paint. I can't wait to see it when she's all pretty!

Thanks for all the great comments and compliments. DetailedImage I'm all about the maintenance. Need to make sure I make my hard work last right.

Conan I used to stare at her a lot before, but now I can't get enough! My car turns my head more than most girls do haha I'm so vain about my car.

Thanks Jazz, don't you just love how those pearl flakes pop like crazy after a good detail. And I have to agree, Eternal Blue Pearl is one of the best blues Acura ever produced.

Burnricers, you're going to love your buddy for what he'll do to your baby.

Nice work, and I'm glad to hear that my brief tutorial on M105 worked out for you. Now just perfect those wash/dry techniques and you'll keep it looking that way.

Welcome to the insanity!

Thanks Todd and trust me I make sure I wash and dry her properly. I've taken a few looks at this article and use my own common sense.

RideZX I can't disagree with you there.
