Exclamation Exceldetail now introducing.........

............a new Erasure 5.5" line of pads. When ya find the 6.5 is just a tad too large for the small curvetures and lines of particular models, and the 4" is just a tad too aggressive for you, we are now introducing the 5.5" flat surfaced Erasure polishing pads. Just like its big brother (6.5") and little sister (4"), identical foam structures (when comparing identical colors) the 5.5" has edge to edge backing for added pad support. You may find this the perfect size for you ! Now available in the popular Orange for polishing and Red for sealing!

dang... 5.5" now

I find the 6.5" way to large for hard to reach spots.. But i'll purchase some for the next season, along with the 4" pads.

How many complete details (whole car) do you guys usually use your pads for? Also, what do you guys use to keep them clean in-between details?

Aznbo, it really depends on how aggressive you are with the pads. I have never, with the exception of yellow, used a pad beyond its limits. i did a full size pickup, with 4" yellow pads (2) for some serious water spotting. But seldom will the occasional detail require even the use of yellow. Its really a specialty pad for those really tough situations.
So again, I wouldnt imagine the typical owner/enthusiast using more then a couple (same color) pads for the entire ownership of there own vehicle.
Im not sure I understand your second question though. Are you referring to keeping the car clean between details or the pads.......?

Sorry I just realized my question was a bit confusing.

I usually use the pads for full details about 2-3 weeks apart, where they would just sit and do nothing during the in-between time. What I was wondering was...how do you guys keep your pads fresh? Do you let it sit in hot water after each detail? I've heard several methods but my main concern is the velcro backing that might lose it's adhesion to the pad when washing them or using anything concentrated to clean them after each use.

Me personally, I just keep them in a zip lock bag, then wash them once a month. I'm too lazy to wash them after every use. That's just me.

My process is hot water / soap.

I prefer to clean the pads the same evening as the detail. If thats a difficult task, at least put them in seperate zip lock baggies. Clean with hand or dish soap, just enough as you would use to clean your hands. Massage soap into pores, rinse, repeat. Let air dry, out of direct sunlight.
Ive been experimenting with "The washing machine" also/ So far I have found thta the washing machine on Perm press setting is just fine. Adjust your liquid detergent accordingly, use about 1/2 as you would for a full load. (I wash my MFs and pads all together)
As for between maintenance, a quick detailer for very/very light dust and debris, or a waterless wash like Freedom One........

Double click on Freedom One from the previous post - should take you to his site. If that doesn't work, Exceldetail . . .

Man i need to pick up some 5.5" and 4" pads now.. the 6.5" are way to large for most applications. The 6.5" red pad is great though
