Engine bay care

I have used Simple Green multi purpose spray. It's biodegradable, smells neat and in concentrated form, so when sprayed right on to the engine, it WILL remove the greasy film. I would assume that this new "Orange Blast" cleaner will work just as well. These are better than the engine cleaner in a can since they have a chemical that is petroleum based and can remove the coating on asphalt driveways.

I spray it on a COLD engine (best done early in the morning). Spray the whole engine bay and areas where there is greasy film. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes then wash off with a hose. I never found a diffeence between using a power washer and just the regular garden nozzle doing this job. After rinsing, idle the car for about 10 minutes or use a compressor blowgun or a leaf blower to dry.

I maintain the engine cleanliness by doing a quick engine wash about every other month. Don't bother with the "Engine Brite/ Engine Shine" as they provide a glossy coating over the engine but looks terrible when it peels off.

Yeah the Simple Green Multi-Purpose spray is great. It cleans wheels and such really well, also. We use it at work all the time to get things shiny...don't know about smells neat, though.
