Dr. ColorChip on a TSX

Has anyone used this yet on a TSX or another Acura?

Since I have a TSX it's covered in a paintchips thanks to the wonderful Acura paint. I've read about the wet sanding method before, but was wondering if anyone has tried Dr ColorChip instead? It seems easier and much faster, so I'm assuming it's not as good as wetsanding or doesn't work at all.

Any thoughts?

All cars chip if you have the conditions .. not just the Acuras.

that's a vendor suggesting the use of a product he sells. I was looking for an end user that has actually used it

I've read IS people's reviews, it seems to work great on some colors but not so great on others. Google it, that's how I found it.

I'll be trying it in the near future. I've read that it works best on darker colored cars. I'll let you know when I give it a try.

It did not work well on my '08 Milano Red TSX. Now I just take my time with the OEM touchup paint; 3 -4 applications. Not perfect but better than leaving it exposed.

I have used Dr. ColorChip on my 2010 TSX (Palladium Metallic) and it works pretty good. My hood had so many stone chips after a couple months of ownership and I hated the way it looked.

There were even 2 chips that were beginning to rust. What I did for these was to spray Iron-X first and then I touch them up.

Good luck!

Just used the Dr Colorchip on my black TL today. I have to give it a

It is certainly easy to use. It covers the chips easily with no blobs of pain sticking up due to the application technique.

It doesn't look like new paint, of course, but it does make it hard to see the blemishes now.

I'll re-seal my paint next week, after this has a week to cure.

When you say re-seal, do you mean repaint the chip over again?

Yes, please post pics. I am curious if it blends in well with the rest of the paint.

I bought this kit a couple months ago. It was the $50-$60 kit. I was waiting till its warm out before I started touching up my paint. That time has come and I will be using the kit soon. If I am not too lazy I can post up before and after pictures.

Step 1 of dr. colorchip is to paint in the chips
Step 2 is to use the Sealact solution (provided in kit) to remove excess paint and I guess it seals up the paint that has been painted into the chip

No. I mean that in order to touch up the rock chips the paint sealant (4*UPP) that I had on the affected areas had to be removed. So once the paint is dried for a week (today) I'm going to wash the car and the re-apply the paint sealant.

I only have two places on the car where the paint needs to be applied again. longer 1/2 inch gashes in the paint. But since it is easy to do I'll wait for a while before I attack it again.

It's nice not looking at white stone chips all over the car though.

I don't have a flicker account or anything like that. But I can take some "after" pics and post them. Provided I'm not too lazy to start a flicker acct.

What does this Sealact solution smell like? I'd say just use a regular 3$ bottle of touchup paint apply with the same technique then wipe the excess with mineral spirits. Mineral spirits doesn't damage OEM paint or clear coat but will remove uncured paint like oversprary. Maybe dilute the mineral spirits slightly but I cant imagine spending 50$ on a product like this!

I'll give it a try and let you guys know I have a few chips I need to fix before the clear bra goes on. Maybe then I can have some peace of mind driving on the highway lol.

Sorry boys, no pics. They didn't turn out as I have a cheap digital camera that can't focus on non specific things like marks on a flat surface. The camera just freaked out and everything was just a blur.

^So, in your opinion, was it worth it and did it do a decent job of hiding the chip and do you recommend it given the price?

I think this is going to boil down to what your expectations are. If you look at the web site you'll see demo videos and pics. I don't think they are 100% accurate. The vids and pics on the site make the results look too perfect.

I knew going in, that demo vids and pics always exaggerate. If you think about what a rock chip is, in the paint, you'll realize that a "perfect" result is not going to be possible, unless sanding and other techniques are involved.

However, I do think the kit is worth the $39 (plus shipping). The color matches perfectly from what I can tell. The system makes it easy to cover the chips and pock marks. Will it fill them? Not on the first application. Maybe if you cover the spot a few times enough paint will build up to partially fill the mark

Yes, I'm satisfied because now I have to really search to find the filled defects. As I said my camera couldn't see the defects it kept focusing on various reflections on the car's paint. As I was washing the car this weekend I found some more spots that I missed before. I'll be going back to them another time.

I started with an inconspicuous scratch as a test. Then as I grew more confidant I kept moving to more noticeable areas. I think my car looks 100% better now. The chips don't scream at me when I walk by anymore.
