Does Rain-X make your windshield prone to chipping?
I know it sounds nutty, but let me explain.
Recently, on a music forum, there was a topic regarding Rain-X. A few people said they felt that Rain-X makes windshield glass soft & prone to small rock chips. I can't say I agree with this, but now that I am looking through a brand new windshield with no abrasions, I figured I'd get some feedback here.
My feeling is that unless someone does a test study by treating half of a windshield & using the untreated side as a control, there really is no way to prove this.
Hey, like they say-never trust a musician.
Any thoughts on this?

Have never heard that. All Rain-X does is coat the glass and fill the micro-pores so that moisture does not fill the tiny pores in the glass and stick to it or freeze (in winter). It's basically the same idea as wax for the paint. Just a coating to help moisture sheet off.

Dunno, but it doesn't really matter in my case anyway. I replace them every 6 months. Which is kinda funny since I don't use 'em much with Rain-X on the windshield. The DC area is pretty hard on them with all the smog & crap on the roads

I havent heard that one before either. Seems kind of odd. If you guys and girls want soemthing like Rain-x but works a whole lot better then try Aquapel from PPG. It really does last six months and does a way better job than Rain-x from persoanl experience. I have been using it for 2 years now and cant believe how well it works in the Rainy city (seattle).

It's not too expensive & it lasts alot longer, IMHO. No worries about the wiper inserts, either, since I'm a stickler at replacing them. Every 6 months, weher or not they're working ok.

I feel comfy saying there is NO WAY RainX makes your windows more prone to chipping. Nupe... Not happening.
The benefits of the RainX far outweigh any downside...
