Detailing help

After claying my car the surface is smooth as silk but there's still some what I would call microscopic reddish/black spots on flat surfaces(hood, roof, trunk lid) that the clay wont remove. Is this the type of oxidation that a good paint cleaner removes? I think i've seen some other people with PWP tsx's mention this before. Just looking for some good product suggestions that are easy to work with by hand. I dont think my camera can focus that clearly up close since they are so small but to give you idea you can't see them unless you put your eyes right up to the surface.

I have used Klasse AIO, and others speak well of Four Star Paint Cleaner. Duragloss probably has something as well. Can't go wrong with any of the three.

hmm could it be the clay I'm using isn't abrasive enough or too fine grade? It's the mothers clay bar kit.

Xan you take a picture of this? I would try claying it again, then if that doesn't work, you ma need to go a bit aggressive using some abrasives to get them out.

Well I tried taking a picture and they are so small the camera doesn't pick them up. I came across an old thread on autopia and someone was talking about how mother's clay bar didn't remove all the tiny rust spots but another brand did. What other clay options would be worth trying? And if that doesn't work what type of abrasive?

rtlltj,

First off, I think your avatar just gave me a seizure! Seriously.

Second, check this site out: http://www.prestostore.com/cgi-bin/s...etail&ct=46929

The owner, Patrick, is a regular on these boards, gives stuff away free every month, and is what all online retailers should be, HONEST!

He has a couple of different grade clays, including the Mothers, but if you want, try the more aggressive one. Have you tried any actual polish, either by hand or by Random Orbital Buffer (PC)? That would be your next step, but pictures will be key in getting you pointed in the right direction.

It sounds like rust deposits, and theyre not going anywhere. Clay is your best option, probably a medium grade or try the Mothers agin, but lighten up on the lubricant. I wouldnt advise polishing just yet, especially with with a PC at this juncture. The last thing you want while polishing is bits of rust between your applicator and the surface, that = swirls. So.....
Try the Mothers again, with as little lube as possible on the areas of concern. If the clay drags a little, thats "ok", not preferred, but your situation is a little different. Polish afterwards with a good polish.
I actually have 4 different grades........Ultra Light, (Mothers), Light and Medium....I think the Mother is just above the Ultra Light....Its actually a very good clay.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try using the clay with less lube on the worst area right above the bumper under the license plate and see how that works. When you detail cars using the medium grade clay you sell on your site do you use soapy water as the lube or any special quick detailer.

If I forget the clay after the rinse cycle, I will always remember before polishing. And if thats the case, I will just use whatever QD is on hand. Soapy water is just fine though.....
Thats why I dont sell "Clay Lubricant"....As a QD or soapy water work just fine.....

I was able to finally get some pics that are clear enough. The dark spots look huge cause its fully zoomed in but they are really the size off a pin point.
Hopefully this gives you an idea of what I'm working with. I swear I've gone over these damn spots a million times with clay and no results. Though I think I might have to use that decon system called ABC or Finish Kare.

Yikes, some of those in the last pic torwards the left look to be like rust. Try the mineral spirits, WD-40, then depending on results, go with a medium abrasive clay. They should sheer off....
