Detailing a car in "poor" condition

I want to get an orbital (probably a PC as it's highly suggested here) so I can detail my CLS. Before I try on the CL, I was gonna practice on my wife's '95 Civic (Phantom Gray color, almost black), but her paint is in somewhat poor condition. She's got swirls, scratches (it was keyed), water spots, spider cracks, etc. However, the paint isn't faded yet and I wanted to do what I can to at least make it look better (and to practice using the orbital).

What is suggested to be the steps I use? Meaning, what products would be best and using what types of pads? On my CL, I've only used Zaino products, but I don't want to use that on her car. I'm guessing some Meguiars products will help.

Please advise

Get pads from www.exceldetail.com

For product, i'd use Megs #83 or Poorboys SSR 2.5 and then follow it up w/ Megs #80 or SSR1 (Haven't used SSR1 yet though).

Then follow up w/ your favorite LSP

And, cars in real poor condition are A LOT more rewarding then nice cars. I actually do some of my friends beaters for free just for the hell of it.

do a search here on some of our members full details, and take al ook at what products they are using.
