Detailed: Sister's Tired Freestyle (Some Westsanding Required)

My sister is in town to visit from Arizona. She told me she had a detail done recently out there. I look at the car and sigh...

As you can see there were some gnarly scratches which required wetsanding. This was done with 2000 grit and then followed up with M105 times two with LC purple foamed-wool and then PO203S on LC white. Sorry for no afters. The ISO was way too high and they came out piss poor

Total time: 10 hours

Wash:

Karcher pressure washer
Camspray foam cannon
Chemical Guys Citrus Wash Clear
Chemical Guys Grime Reaper
P21S wheel gel
Swissvax wheel and detail brushes
Boar's Hair Brush
Home Depot grout sponges
Uber waffle weave microfibers
Uber microfibers

Exterior Cleaning and Correction:

Meguiar's claybar
Finish Kare #425
Meguiar's M105 compound
Menzerna PO203S Power Finish
Lake Country white pads
Lake Country purple foamed-wool pads
Flex XC-3401 DA
Isopropyl alcohol between each pass
Chemical Guys EZ Creme Glaze
Finish Kare FX-100
Finish Kare #108
Brinkmann light

Did you wetsand the same area in multiple directions? It looks like you went horizontal and also vertical.

Wow, really nice job!!! A couple of questions: Would a yellow pad with the compound work or was the paint in such bad that you had to use a purple foamed wool pad. I'm assuming foamed wool has more cut than yellow pad.

Also, can someone explain the process of wetsanding. What's the technique (pressure, motion?)

I like using pfw because it cuts quicker and finer and is much safer to use than traditional foam. The reason for this is because it generates much less heat and therefore less risk of burning.

I used 2000 grit that was soaked overnight in soapy water. I thoroughly sprayed the area with quick detailer and worked in a side to side motion (no pressure) checking every 5-6 strokes. Checking often is key. Once I did not see the scratch anymore, I knew my job was done. On some of those pics of the sanded parts on the door, I needed to go back and sand a little more, as some scratches were still evident.
