Detailed the daily driver

Weather has been super nice last few days so I took some time yesterday and today to detail the daily driver. On Saturday I did the usual two bucket wash, wheels/tires, simple engine cleanup, dry and claybar. Today I wanted to do my first correction on the car with my new PCXP and my Menzerna polishes. I did an IPA wipedown then used my trunk lid as my experimenting area.

Seeing as I had VERY poor lighting in my garage and my car is silver anyway, capturing swirls and marring was next to impossible on camera. I went from 106FA/Uber Green to 106FA/Orange to 106FA/Yellow to 203S/Green to 203S/Orange. None of those combinations yielded the results I wanted so I simply applied a coat of PowerLock/Uber Black and let that cure. I don't know if I wasnt working the polish long enough or what, but I do plan on getting at it again in the future to see if I can't get what I'm after. The paints current status is quite good, so I wasn't heartbroken about not correcting it, just wanted to play around. Anyway, on with the pictures! Other than a LED interior overhaul, its bone stock sadly.

Hopefully this helps with "how fast" you should be working the polish.. It sorta helped me:

the SF-4000 looks to be more of a finishing compound rather than a polish... so maybe thats why you weren't getting the results you wanted? And was the PF-2500 not satisfying? Did it correct any of the swirl marks? Your job looks good! but its hard to tell being its sorta dark

and not sure if u've seen this chart already... but: http://www.autogeek.net/menzerna-of-germany.html

Yeah, unfortunately the backside of my house is shaded so sun shots were out of the question. And the PF2500 just didnt seem to do the trick. I was monitoring my effectiveness by "watching" a couple of minor scratches on my trunk lid. They did seem to get better along with some marring, but they never completely went away or even diminished enough to where it was hard to see them anymore. I kept hearing about how soft Honda paint is, which is why I assumed I wouldn't have such a tough time getting the level of correction I wanted.

I assumed it would be too but had read articles about people using it with the "soft" Honda paint and getting results.

I think moving to a heavier compound will do the trick

I guess I might want to look into getting some IS1500.

Also, after watching that video posted above, I was definitely moving too quickly and not working the polish near long enough. I'll have to give it another go in the future and see if I can't get a better outcome.
