Dealership Protectant

Has anyone purchased the protectant package that the dealership offers? I think its called "The Protector". Dealer says its an interior/exterior protectant where they basically coat the outside with a teflon coating (chips, swirls, uv rays, acid rain, etc...), and they treat the interior (fading, drink spills, etc...). they say it has a five year warranty. cost i was quoted is $800 inside and outside. seems a bit pricey.

can someone direct me to other products like this that wont break the pockets

Dealer schmeiler.......Its a significant markup from what you could have an experienced detailer perform. They will require you come back for a once a year treatment, which is nothing more then a Polymer sealant atop a fresh wash job....
For less then 1/2 of that, you could get your self all the equipment and products needed to sustain a lifetime of detailing, and it would be very personalized at your own discretion/liking.
In other words, dont do it...... Also in other words, you could fly me out there to do it for you for 1/2....lol

I completely agree. For a fraction of the cost, a little time and effort, you can DIY. Here's an excerpt from an article called "Rip-off Room Revisited" and the entire article can be found at CNN Money.com.
Paint sealant
There was little agreement on the value of protecting your new car's paint job. "I think the paint sealant's crap," said Barrett. if you're buying a product primarily for extra warranty protection, check the warranty carefully to see what types of damage are covered and how and where repairs will be done. Also, check the factory warranty to make sure there are no conflicts.

Fabric protection
Among the most commonly derided products F and I managers sell is fabric protection. Dickison said his dealership charges $189 to add a stain-resisting chemical to a car's upholstery.

A can of fabric protector costs a few dollars at your local drugstore and you can spray it on yourself in minutes. All the F & I managers agreed: There is absolutely no difference between what they sell you and what you can buy in the store.

i figured as much....but wanted to get some feedback from the masses.

but with that being said, whats the most preferred brand. i used to use meguiars back in the day, but i've read stuff on here about various brands as well. i definitely hate the white haze left by some waxes/polishes. not to mention the leather treatments that find their way in to the perforated seats (white /off white liquids). the more you pay for a car, the more you want it to last

Here's a thread that will give you an idea as to what products some of the members of this forum prefer. Most of them are purchased through online detailing sites.
