dash cleaning
Two products which clean and protect with very little shine are Vinylex (made by Lexol) and 303 Aerospace Protectant. Both are discussed in great detail in other threads.
Vinylex is available at any Pep Boys.
303 is a little harder to find, but you can mail order it cheaply at www.carcrazy.net.

I used to use Armor all on old vehicle till someone here pointed out that if you stop you are fubar'd. I started off with Vinylex - it rocks - Pep Boy's has it as above, plastic looks like a deeper black without much shine at all - very rich appearance, reccomend it highly. Haven't found 303 yet...
I found 303 at Zellers of all places (Zellers = Canadian Target)
I haven't used anything besides water on the dash such is my fear of an Armour All greasy looking dashboard. I will give my 303 a shot this weekend.

I use Vinylex... it comes with UV protectants in it. I tend to not spray it on the dash rather put it on the towel (slightly damp, spray on a little water). I then use a dry towel to wipe the dash down again to even out any spots and to take some of the shine away.
I used Vinylex for the first time on Saturday. It's a bit too shiny, but it looks good. I sprayed the Vinylex on an applicator pad, then applied it to the dash (and other surfaces). Next time maybe I'll use a dry towel to wipe it down afterwards.
I use only a damp cloth (water) to wipe down the interior. This minimizes the amount of dust and particles that immediately attach to an "amoraled" dash. Additionally i dont think oil based products are good for the materials, are they?
I should further say to minimize any shine and glare on the dash, I use very little Vinylex. Again, damp cloth (water), spray a couple of trigger worth of vinylex (mist on) and that it. Clean dash, then wipe down with clean/dry towel.
Otherwise the shine is too much. On all other plastic/vinyl, I use just vinylex without the water but i do wipe it down with a dry towel afterwards. Again, I don't like the shine so that's my way of getting rid of the shine. NOTE: it's not an armour all shine (which is ridiculous).

I want to thank eneryone's input on the cleaning products. I picked up some 303 today and used it on the dash and upper door panels and it works great, no shine just a deep black crisp look. I used a wax applicator and went over it a couple of times to remove the shine.

That is a good short term solution. The problem, however, is that the dash tended to get badly faded in the sun. When I sold my last Accord (which had about 70,000 miles on it) the black dash had turned gray. I restored the color with some cheap stuff, but it looked really bad before that. Also, its easier for dust to adhere to the dash when there is no protectant on it.
If you like a flat finish (I perfectly understand, who wants a shiny dash?) got with 303. Also, if you use a light coating of Vinylex, it it doesn't have much of a shine.

Actually... i find by wiping down the dash with a damp rag and then drying it with a clean towel that less dust collects. I see more when I spray lexol then dilute and the wipe down.
The only reason i use lexol is to protect the dash from UV light. I don't do this every time i clean the interior.

hi, okay I'm confused.
I bought lexol and vinylnex and just finished detailing the inside of my car.
1) The lexol seems to only clean the leather, do I need to go over it with vinylex as well?
2) Does the lexol leather cleaner protect against UV?
3) I read elsewhere on this forum that only the part with holes is real leather, while the rest is not. If this is true, should I vinylex the Fo-leather, and Lexol the real.
Any help would be appreciated. It seems that I needed to use a lot of vinylex to get the job done. Am I doing something wrong?
On a lighter note, I got 4 more miles till 600 on the odo. I'm gonna take it out some more tonight and finally rev the TSX like it wants to be revved

1. do not use vinlex on the leather... only made for plastics (vinyl included)
2. vinylex does... don't know if leather protectant can do this... by treating leather correctly it should last for yearsss
3. don't know which part are leather but yes... use vinlex on the vinyl and the cleaner/conditioner on leather.
the main reason that use condition leather is because sweat... the salts dry it out so you need a conditioner to counter this effect. you don't need to do this every week... more like once a quarter. (even that may be too much, but won't hurt).

Thanks Devo, you been a big help. I hoping it stops raining soon so I can start working on the exterior.
Man I know I liked how the TSX looked before I bought it, but I think it's looking better everyday.
