Cloudy Headlights

I have an 03 TL-S that is starting to show some significant clouding/pitting in the headlights. I was wondering what others have used to buff their headlights out with? I have seen just the polish that I was thinking about using and just trying to buff them out. I've also seen a whole kit that involves wetsanding the headlights. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem with my lights, been planning on fixing it for a while, just haven't gotten around to it. This method seemed to work pretty well for one member, and I plan on following in his footsteps....

What polish are you considering? I generally use a metal polish for headlight and tail light lenses. In any case, I'd start with the mildest you've got and build as needed. Good luck!

I normally just use Megs PlasticX, it works really well on most moderately clouded headlights. On anything more serious I usually wetsand the lights then polish them with a compound like Menzerna IP, Sonus SFX-1, etc...

I had some pretty bad couding (on the outside of the lens) and just for the heck of it I tried Meguiars NXT Wax and it came out great.... may not fix your problem but it sure surprised me !

Interesting. I've been wondering how to get rid of the nasty clouding on my mom's car's headlights. It's been driving me crazy and I want to take it off somehow. I try not to get OCD with hers and my dad's cars...LOL...but they don't take care of them like they should. Poor cars . I just don't know if it's on the inside or the outside.

You can try it by hand. The main thing is the sanding. Just take your time and sand it good. Use plenty of water. Clean the surface good before polishing.

this is what i did this weekend: I sanded with 1500 and 2000 grit paper, going up,down zig zag in all directions and finished off going horizontal with 2000grit paper
and then i used meguires plastix scratch remover with simoniz orbital buffer and my headlights look awsome, very smooth and clear.

Q. You mentioned that there is a product that you can use that may help the outside clarity of the front headlight lenses. It seems that over time the plastic lens gets foggy and hazy due to weathering.

I went to an auto supply store and explained what I was looking for, and they looked at me with a "hazed and foggy" look and couldn't help me.

Can you tell me the name of the product, where it can be obtained and the approximate price?

A. The product is called Permatex Headlight Lens Restoration Kit, Item No. 09135, and my buddy at Acme Auto (a good place to look) said it is new on the market. It costs about the price of a wrapped-food lunch for two.

The Permatex website, www.permatex.com, says it is available at Auto Zone, Pep Boys and select Carquest, NAPA and Ace Hardware stores.
