Clearcoat Failure on Refinished Wheel
Last year I had bought 2 refinished wheels for my Infiniti from eBay from the seller Wheels Tires and More. Ever since the beginning of the year, it seems that the clear coat on the wheels has begun to fail and is chipping/ discoloring (see pictures). When I wash my car at home, all I use is Meguiars All Wheel and Tire Cleaner. However, I've also used a self car wash (it's in Hackensack, NJ if anyone would know) and I had used their wheel and tire cleaner that sprays from the pressure wand, and I'm curious if that would have caused it since that stuff seems pretty potent. Or maybe this is happening from rocks hitting the wheels when I drive, but I don't think that since the two used OEM-finished wheels I have on the car don't exhibit any of this and I'm thinking these were just refinished in a cheap way. With that said, what should I do to try and correct it? Should I just mask off the affected areas and spray some clear to try and keep it from spreading? I can also e-mail the seller, but I'd doubt they do anything since it's been a little over a year and it is a wheel so it's a part of the car that's constantly subjected to the environment. And I'm not sure if it would be worth it to refinish them (again) when each if the wheels cost me about $135 each when I got them.

My guess is it's a combination of poorly refinished wheels and the acidic Meguiars All Wheel and Tire cleaner.

Anyone think I should mask off some of the small areas where the clear coat is chipped and rattle can some clear on the wheels? Probably won't look/be perfect, but I'm thinking it will hopefully help stop it from chipping away more.
