clear bra removal

Just got my 06 M5 and it has a clear bra on the front bumper/1/3 of the side fenders and about 1/4 of the hood. I don't like how you can see the lines on the fenders/hood so I am just going to keep it on the bumper since the whole part is covered.

I was doing some research and it suggested using a heat gun or blow dryer. Have any of you guys tried this before?

Thanks

Darrin

I've never tried it before but I've read that other detailers have used a heat gun with great success.

dude wth? i paid 700 dollars to put a clear bra on but here you are wanting to take it off......i dont know. it's extra protection and people NEVER gave me negative criticism on the lines of the clear bra. people would always ask,

"is that a big scratch on your car"

and i would answer

"no it's just a clear bra"

and they would go "whoa (with raised eye brows)"

just keep it man. the owner of the M5 must have really loved his car to protect it with a clear bra, you should too.

Keep it...you'll get used to the line. My dad's RL and my mom's RX300 both have it and it is well worth keeping it.

clear bra and washing

I have an 06 gs 300 that I bought and it has a clear bra on it. How do you take care of it so it won't come off? Meaning do I wash it normal like I do the car? or just gentle with a micofiber cloth? and don't use the bug sponge right?

I performed a clear bra removal on my Civic awhile back. I STRONGLY recommend using a hair dryer to assist in loosening up the adhesive as you pull up the material. I did not think of it at the time but I would have saved several hours by doing this. The adhesive is a real pita to remove from the paint!

Clear Bra Removal -it is not difficult to remove, apply heat to a corner with a hair dryer (not a heat gun) and work slowly to avoid breaking / tearing the vinyl (like any applied vinyl, the longer it’s been applied the more difficult it will be to remove) pull at a 45 degree angle and slightly upwards to avoid tearing, work slowly and be patient.

Note:
a)If the film is properly applied to a fully cured painted vehicle, it can be removed, usually in one piece, without damaging the paint surfaces beneath the film by pulling the film at an angle not straight up.

b)If this is a used car, speak with the previous owner to see if the film was applied to aftermarket paint. If it is be very careful because the paint may lift. This doesn't happen with OEM paint, only some poorly prepped / primed aftermarket paint. Start on one corner and begin peeling / pulling towards your body at a slight angle.

Adhesive removal
a) Detailer’s clay and /or 1:1 Isopropyl Alcohol / distilled water
b) 3M Citrus Base Spray Adhesive Remover – a citrus-based, solvent-free adhesive remover leaves surfaces clean and dry with no residue. Removes tape residue from masking, foam or duct tape, clean, fresh citrus scent - not recommended for use on plastic
