have you tried soap and water

I always use Mothers chrome polish for my tips and it works well but you have to keep them maintained for best results.

I saw a thread on this before and someone mentioned Barkeepers friend or something like that but i haven't found nor ever heard of that before

Bar keeper's Friend is great for the tips. I use an old toothbrush to work it in and then buff with a rag.

On a related note about Bar keeper's friend: I have a WDP and will get some shoe scuffs on the lower panel under the doors that use to be hard to rub out. I have found that barkeeper's friend works very well for getting those scuffs off with no affects to the paint. I'll use wax first but if that doesn't do it I know BKF will.

You can also use soot cleaner to clean the tips so the inside isn't black. You can find that wherever they sell fireplace supplies...

nevr dull ftw. Tried mothers and something else. I thought my stock tips were permanently blackened. I got them back to 95% with a little bit of work.

I guess I was a little "hardcore" with my approach as I used goof off with a metal wire brush and have maintained it with turtle wax metal polish.

Yes, I have different grades of steel wool. Depending on how dirty they get. Start with a thick steel wool and work your way down to a fine steel wool.
I use this method for all my cars/truck exhaust tips. Always works for me.

Use bar keepers to get the heavy gunk off, and then neverdull to further buff and maintain. BF is heavy duty stuff!

i used mothers for a while till i came across blue b gone that a friend let me use once at a show.... now i use it to polish my engine bay aswell... what i didn't like about the mother that it becomes this thick layer of wax and it's hard to polish out....the bbg is liquid so it's less of a hassle.

After installing ATLP V2 Quads a few months ago (and then removing the 1st and 2nd cats), I was having some issues keeping the tips clean. After reading this thread, and a few other AZ threads, I tried Bar Keepers Friend ($2 at walmart).

I spent 1 minute of sponge work per tip. HIGHLY reccomend this product. All the carbon build-up is gone, and I'm left with my orginal highly-polished SS tips. Awesome. (sorry, no pics).

+1 for Optimum Metal Polish, at least its best i have used on aluminum, on metal P21s finish restors works good, CG metal wax. mothers didnt work too good. if i had to pick one to use it would be Optimum. for heavy stuff P21s Polishing soap. thats what we use on exhaust tips

if you use metal sealant like Rejex, it will be a lot easier to clean them in future

Does any of this stuff work well on a slightly rusted muffler part of the Type-S exhaust as well?

P21S Polishing Soap is the shiz!! I used it on an Audi Q5 I detailed in June and I think the pictures speak for themselves.

How does one even clean the entire exhaust tip on the 07-08 type-s? It's tough cause the quad tips sit really close to each other making it basically impossible to clean the entire tip. I wonder if the tip comes off easy..if it does I can just take it off polish it and than put it back on.
