Claw scratches in leather...
OK, so I was in a rush this weekend to get to my friend's place. In my blinding stupidity, I allowed my passenger to put his 85lbs black lab in my backseat without putting anything down between the dog and the seats. Long story short, I now have a noticeable (but not extremely deep) scratch on my middle seat.
How can I fix this? I've tried using leather cleaner/conditioner (Zaino) and olive oil so far. What about using shoe polish? I'd be worried that the colors would be off, but I'd also think it'd be easier to match black leather than any other color...

The Old Grey Whistle Test
a) Is it a leather (uncovered) hide that is scratched?
b) The polyurathene covering (covered leather)
a) Leather Master's; Leather Scratch/ Scuff Remover
b) Abrade the surface until the surface is level (dependant upon how 'deep' the scratch is) if necessary 'fill in' with a clear coat spray / paint

I found these scratches in my front Passenger seat after a busy weekend and I was just sick. I couldn't decide who to blame as I had 3 different people in that seat in three days. The bolster was scratched and the plastic piece on the door pillar was too.
I called Dr. Vinyl and met the guy before work one afternoon. 45 minutes and $60 later, I can't see that anything ever happened. As long as its not on the perforated (sp?) part, you should be able to get it fixed. Check with the upholstery shops. Surely theres someone near you. I hate to pay for fixes, but sometimes the damage just drives me nuts and its well worth it to get it fixed.

Surface fissure (cracks) - repeated flexing and stretching of the pigmented leather or the acrylic polythene causes the surface coating to wear and crack causing the pigmented leather colouring to become visible, so what appears to be a cracking of the leather surface is in actuality fissure of the colorant running in a pattered direction. Having lost the protection of its covering the exposed hide allows dirt and dust to settle into the cracks making them more visible. To repair use a reputable leather dye that will restore the surface to recreate a new seemingly original finish
