So close...

Or you could just skip the PCW altogether. Once you clay, the paint should be in good shape.

Keep the dawn in the kitchen - your steps are fine but you might be making too much work for yourself. Claying will get rid of on surface contaminents, the Pre-cleaner will do that and remove oxidation, old wax and possibly some minor swirl marks. If your paint has no oxidation and such, then you can just clay. If it does then you can skip the clay and use the pre cleaner wax. Since you car is a 2003 I would wash, pre cleaner wax then follow up with NxT. If you want to go the extra step get Meg's Deep Crystal Polish (#2 in their three step line). It is almost exactly like MEg's professional Show Car Glaze but much easier to apply and remove. This will add a layer of depth and shine that the NxT will then seal in and give you awesome results.

Hope that helps.

Agree,

I always finish mine up with a once over with Meguair's Final Detail. And don't forget Meguair's Endurance for the tires.

Here is what I did this weekend.
1. Washed with NXT wash.
2. Applied Meguairs swirl remover then removed
3. Applied Meguairs show car glaze then removed.
4. Applied Meguairs NXT and removed.
5. Finished up with Meguairs Final Detail.

My black TL-S has a great shine (sorry no pics).

I would recommend that anyone that hasn't used a claybar on their car to do that before using a polish. Those little specs of metalic brake pads, usually from railroad cars, will scratch a clear coat in a heart beat when caught in a polishing pad.

If NXT is anything like Zaino, you need to strip any non-polymer finish from the paint before applying it. Zaino and I assume NXT like a very clean surface to bond. Since it's a polymer, it does not bond to a carnauba. You can certainly top it with a good wax, but I would not apply it over top of one. I'm sure the shine is great either way, the longevity will surely be reduced.

if you are going to polish then you are going to be removing oxidation, correcting swirls and what not...your lifting a layer that includes the embedded rail dust (or what ever). All clay can do is remover "surface" contaminations...don't take those diagrams to heart where you see the contamination "jammed" into your clear coat -.

That Mr Clean stuff leaves a residue on the surface of the paint that helps the sheeting action. I would NOT consider that a clean enough surface to Clay or polish your paint.
