Cheaper alternative to UDM/PC

Are there any other orbital machine out there that are good enough to do a decent job on polishing? I saw one at walmart for like 20 bucks but you can't adjust the speed so I said hell to that. I searched online but I'm hesitant because I dont know the qualities of some. So any suggestions would help. It seems as though UDM and PC is the monopoly of orbital machine on this forum.

Others can give you a much more thorough response, but I would say the UDM/PC is the monopoly of Random Orbital Polishers not just on this forum, but most of the detailing forums like this. I bought my UDM last summer, and while I'm still learning, I'm very pleased with the investment. I guess the way I justified it was considering the money you're going to save down the road - Imagine if you bought the Wal-Mart buffer for $20, how much could that really do? You're going to pay just about what the UDM cost for a good detail. After you do it yourself twice, you've got it paid for, for sure, ya know?

UDM/PC is the best way to go, buuuuuuut if you need something cheap I bought a buffer at Harbor Freight Tools that varible for around $25.00. But I must agree with Steve9207 and the UDM/PC is worth it.

There is a cheaper alternative to a UDM, it's called a Refurbished UDM. Much worth $100. Talk to Excel, he'll hook you up w/ one.

They aren't refurbishing them any more ... as for a substitute.. there isn't one ..

For the beginner go for the PC .. the UDM is still having growing pains.

dale, what kind of growing pains...i have used mine about 3 times so far, i dont want to have to worry about it going dead on me after my year is up....

as for an alternative, the market just doesnt have a mainstream demand for the professional type orbital machine, thats why there isnt much competition or that many machines to chooes from....

there is nothing you can buy for less then the cost of a pc or udm, or meguiars g110 or the griots machine that can do what these machines are capable of doing....period....
