Chamois Towel vs. Microfiber

I am not convinced to use microfiber towel to apply Optimum Car Wax on the paint. I purchased a few from Meg's, but they don't seem as plush or soft as I imagined.

I was wondering if we can use those super absorbing drying chamois towel (that usually comes in a plastic can to keep it moist). Will this work well with the Optimum Car Wax?

My main concern is light scratches or swirls.

With OCW or OSW, I'll spritz the panel and wipe/buff with a 16 x 16 MF towel. If any haziness is evident, lightly buff the section with a MF towel. Another method is to fold the MF towel twice giving you 8 sections. Spray the product onto one of the surfaces and wipe a panel to apply the product. I can't vouch for the plushness of the Megs towels and I have not had a problem with swirls with the towels I use for buffing (Excel Blue Supreme and CG Ultra Plush).

I assume the product you're referring to is a synthetic chamois called the Absorber. It is used strictly for drying and nothing else, certainly not to apply waxes/sealants.

An Absorber, or even natural hyde chamois have no business in wax/sealant application or removal. You really need to find a quality microfiber and try them. There are lots of advantages to microfibers, which are clearly evident after using a few times.

Is MF towel best to use when dry? I am planning to wash and apply Spray Wax afterwards with the MF.

Or should I use it damp a bit?

I would use a dry MF for wax.

MF's are best for removing wax and polish products when dry. As for using one to dry with, they usually work a little better when slightly damp. It seems to increase the wicking ability.
