It's true..... But there is an interesting effect when you layer a sealant and carnauba wax together. Eventually you get a mishmash of stuff on your paint, and while it is not any shinier, it is very deep... I like that mishmash.

Yup, been saying it for some time now....I just dont hink the Nubas have what it takes any more, I havent used one for a couple yrs (OK, I take it back, i tried CK Yellow Creme Wax on the hood the other day). But Since I first used a Poly, its all I use on my own cars, and client cars.....They ofetn exceed my expectations for depth and durability, so, why not use them ?

Not only that, but according to the article, its also basically going to be phased out because it is bad for the enviroment, and of course it does not last on the car. I just started using a poly, just started really paying any attention to wax/sealant at all, I was a slap on whatever is available and go type but now I am sold that a poly is the only way to go.

No, definately not IMO. I will always continue to use carnubas on my show cars and customers weekend warriors. I could care less about how long a product lasts in situations like that, i want what looks best, and i've yet to find a poly that can match the look of a carnuba.


We discussed this a few months back, look it up, it was a great discussion.

I wonder if they factor in the chemicals and waste that is produced when manufacturing a poly sealant. The carnauba only requires some solvents, blocks of carnauba and some stabilizer. It's all mix together and you get the product. Less waste produced at the factory.

Synthetic means it is man-made from scratch, instead of sourced from mother nature. And when you make something, there is always waste.

At some of the most prestigious Concours events (Pebble Beach for example) the vast majority of show cars still are prepped with Carnauba. They don't have to worry about the durability as you point out. All they want is a major shine. That's not to say polymers/synthetics don't shine, they just like the shine qualities of a wax better. There may also be some financial incentives involved as well.

I picked up some Meg #16 recently and today I used it on half of the car (it was all I had time for). So far I like what I see, I just hope it will last. Hopefully I can finish the rest of the car this weekend.

Not a dinosaur at all. As already noted, carnaubas are loved and used by "most" of your top concour winners and people who baby their machines also prefer carnaubas due to the better appearance they give off.

The future will most likely hold more wax/polymer blends rather that carnaubas being written off altogether.

there is no replacement to a great carnuba, someday eventually syns and polys will duplicate if not surpass carnuba's but not for at least 10-20years. carnuba's don;t last, but mismashes as one put it is the best of both worlds. you get a deeper shine that lasts longer than using just carnuba.

I like my carnauba.... I want S100... P21s is getting too expensive. But they don't sell S100 here in Australia.

This is why my vehicles and clientelles get Polymers......
someday eventually syns and polys will duplicate if not surpass carnuba's but not for at least 10-20years.
I beg to differ, I think polymers are the absolute latest in car care technology. I would also say 9 of 10 people would not be able to tell a difference between the two.

Again, all car care surface advancements appear to be aimed at the polymer side of car care......Its my opinion paste waxes will eventually be "have beens"....due to popularity swings in polymer use.

I could not agree more with Mr Bynon about the Nubas being "pushed to the back row".

I'm waiting til they bring #21 out here. So far, NXT speed detailer and NXT Paste wax was just released, but not on the shelves yet. So it'll take a while.
