Can't get the Scratch X off entirely?

I used ScratchX today to try to get some water spots off my paint. It did an okay job but after buffing the stuff out with a clean microfiber, I noticed that there's still some of it left on the car paint. I tried getting it out but to no avail. I just ended up using optimum car wax over it. did i miss a step? will it damage the car paint if i waxed over it?

Should come off really easily. are there chunks, a film, or a sheen?

Maybe put a little MORE scratch-X on and buff it to see if it brings the old stuff with it? re-apply polish after, though.

i didnt use a polish.

what it looks like is that the areas where i used scratch X now have a very thin layer of residue. it can only be seen at an angle.

i just waxed the area with optimum car wax. if i want to redo it, do i have to do another step to remove the car wax or can i just straight up use scratch X over the area again?

its probably very fine micro marring, which will resemble a haze...

Sorry, I meant re-apply the WAX after the scratch-x.

Scratch-x is just a kind of polish, designed to work when used by hand. If you think it's actual residue, put some QD or rubbing alcohol on a MF towel or cotton ball and gently wipe the area. If it comes off, it was residue. If not, then it's as vinnier6 said, micro-marring from the polishing. You can try re-polishing with the scratch-x but go very gently to see if it clears it up.

Whatever you do, re-protect it with wax or sealant when you are done.

i used a yellow foam pad and hand-polished it. i know what you're gonna say jess, lol. i want it machine-polished but can't really afford to get it done that way. at least not until a couple of months from now.

i checked today and the haze stuff is gone now even though i applied optimum spray wax over it. what a relief!

i handpolished it in for about 10 seconds and buffed it off. maybe i just used too much of the product to cause that haze on the paint. i made sure i didnt apply any pressure onto the paint.

Sounds like compound Haze aka micro marring like stated above. The wax may have filled in the slight haze so don't be surprised if it comes back in the future when the wax comes off. You just need to use a finishing polish to remove the haze if it does come back.

Honestly, either the haze was a result of NOT having wax on it or a result of micromarring and your LSP has fillers that covered it up. If it returns after a few washes, it was the latter, if not, the former.

Either way, I have a hard time believing you did any damage with Scratch-X by hand... Unless yo used steel wool to apply it.
