Buffing Motorcycle Questions

Hey guys, Im in need of some assistance on this one. I recently picked up another motorcycle and the paint is swirled and has scratches/scuffs on it. The tank is the worst offender but the tail is quite hazy. Ive attached some pictures of it (theyre cell phone quality, sorry).

What would you suggest I use on them? Im mostly concerned for the plastics as Im not sure if I can buff them the same way I would a car. BTW, this will be maybe the third time using the PC.

Tank -

Tail -

Its Jet Black, no flake. Im not looking for 100% correction. I just want to bring back its shine.

Either remove the tank and fenders or tape everything off, just go slow and be patient with the PC, and I'm sure you can cut these down and polish them up nice

Thats what Im thinking.

A friend told me to use Megs 105 as the scratches/swirls arent deep. Should I use 205 on top of it? Im also looking at Black Fire Wet Diamond to seal it.

the tank you can treat like the car as its aluminum with a basecoat/clearcoat paint...

the plastics however, not the same....you can still polish the plastics, but becareful not to go too agressive as there isnt a clearcoat to deal with...

I'd probably start slow with a 4 inch pad with the PC. Least aggressive pad/polish combo to start with and see what results you get.

I actually just placed an order. I didnt have many pads so I picked up a 14 pack of 4" LC pads from Detailed Image. Its got black, blue, green, orange, purple foamed wool, white, and yellow; two of each.

I ordered some Megs 105 and 205 and Im going to try out the Blackfire Wet Diamond. I saw some reviews of it and they seem favorable.

Its not like the bike is going to see the environmental abuse that my car does. When Im home its in the garage.

Ive got some Danase Swirl Abolisher somewhere, but Im not sure how old it is. I think I may also have some wet glaze.

really..... and where are you getting this from?

If thats the case, so do our plastic bumpers on our cars the same? now why would they not clear the fairings if the tank is sprayed with clear? I do know that not all bikes have a clearcoat.

The plastics are clear coated. The stickers are under it. I polished half of the bike and brought it outside to take a look. These are camera phone pics. The trees were already blocking the sun.

Its maybe 75% corrected, but there are more scratches then I thought. Particularly on the tank. I hit the tank with a yellow pad and Megs 105 and then an orange pad and 205 but some scratches are being stubborn. Others are covered by the tank pads so I dont really care. The front end cleaned up nicely with just an orange pad and 205. I sealed the paint with Blackfire Wet Diamond.

I was going to finish the rest of the bike but I got sidetracked installing a new hugger and painted some parts. Ill hit the rest of it today.

Two years. I started on an 88 Honda Hawk GT. Still have it and dont plan on getting rid of it. The Daytona was my dream bike and it was a deal I couldnt pass up.

Yep. I was honestly surprised with the front plastics. The swirls and scratches came out easier then expected. I still havent done the lowers or the tail section though. Ill get to it tomorrow after work.
