Brother: The Slacker

My brother sent me pics of his car. Needless to say he hasn't taken very good care of it. Now he wants to get the paint restored. I was wondering if his paint is repairable with a good detail job, or if he should just get the car repainted?

Here's the damage
(sorry for the poor image quality, its taken with his iPhone):

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

I'm typically a pretty brave guy, but I think I'd run and hide if somebody brought that to me!

If it is even repairable (looks like some clearcoat failure going on there...which would mean it's not repairable), it would take so much time to do it that he could probably get a good quality paint job for the same amount of money.

I'm usually in the camp that says to save the paint job, but not in this case.

Just my .02 worth.

That paint is toast. Looks like it's time for a new paint job and some education from here to maintain the new paint job. If the car was well-maintained, it would have never reached the point of clearcoat failure.
