For all of those of you who are under the belief that clay bar "pulls" contaminants from your car's paint, please read this...

CLAY
A.K.A............
1. Detailing clay works by hydroplaning (floating) over the surface you’re cleaning on a thin layer of clay lubricant.
2. When the clay (polish) encounters surface contamination, it abrasively grinds it away.
3. Detailing clay shears off any foreign material above the level surface of the paint.
Quoted from your site link.....

From my site
How to's:
Clay is designed to pull contaminants away or simply sheer them from your paint surface, safely, and this is accomplished with ease.
That about sums it up eh ?

CLAY
Parts of that article looked familiar and discovered it is part of Autiopia's "Cleaning Car Paint With Detailing Clay" article.

I understood all of the goodness that can come from claying, but had read several times that it "pulls" contaminants out of paint. But when I found that it shears off embedded articles and grinds them away, I was a little surprised. Just thought the link would give people a better understanding of exactly what the clay is doing.

Why I need claying ?

I asked a detailer about claying my car as part of full ext. detailing.
(told him my car is 2004, never detailed etc.)

He asked me "Why do you think you need claying ?"

Why did he ask that ?

He may want to determine if you will even notice a difference. One of those "What he doesnt know, wont hurt him." Does he charge extra for it ?

Hey, theres detailers out there that will shortchange you in a heart beat!
I wouldnt worry about doing the entire car, I normally just clay the horizontal surfaces (roof, deck, hood) and sides down to about the doorhandle....Unless theres debris or pollutants below those areas, then Ill spot treat. For me, its all part of the package......
