2001 Acura CL tire width
I just bought some rims off of some guy and I was wondering if anyone knew what's the largest width I could fit into my 2001 Acura CL. 2 of the Rims have 245/40 R18; is that too big? Will 245's fit alright? The guy also told me to put smaller tires on the front ie 225/40. Is that good or keep it the same all the way around. Please help, I'm clueless when it comes to tires and rims, this is my first set and first mod to my CL. Thanks.

What kind of car did the rims come off of? You have to have the correct offset for the rims to work. Typically on a CL, people go with a +42 and up. If the offset is on the lower side I would say it would work. The factory tire on a CL-S is 25.5 inches tall and 7.4 inches wide. A 245/40/18 would be 25.7 x 8.8. So height wise you would be fine but width would come down to the offset of the wheel and if the car was lowered, etc. Assuming your offset is correct, I would say it would work but it may rub a little when you are backing up or if you hit a harsh bump. 225 and 235 are the most popular sizes on a CL. So your only 10mm's off.

i'm sorry...i misread...thought u were talking bout the stock CLS rims, in which case 235 width is about the max...for yer rims, i think 245 will work if u do a Comptech drop...anything more, u might get some rubbing
