:wow: Well after about 6 hours of terible instructions and wrong information, i finally got my factory navigation monitor to play video. I made some very detailed step by step instructions on how to do this, with about 25 pictures (so pretty much even a moron could do this with these instructions). I have been a car audio installer for the past 4 years now at one of the number one northwest audio shops (so i know what i am talking about). I am selling these instructions for $25 on a burned CD or $30 for a hard copy. Why pay an installer to do it for you when you can do it your self for 1/10 of the price. These instructions include a materials list and a tools list. Shipping is free any where in the us. If you would like to purchase a set on these instructions please email me at heyjoe8@hotmail.com with the subject as Acura Navigation to Video. I will ship the instructions as soon as i receive payment, i accept checks, money orders, and cash.
thanks, nick

Nick,
Do your instructions also include where to buy the RGB decoder? As you know these decoders have been discontinued by Pioneer Electronics and almost impossible to find. All your great instructions will do no good, unless you have the RGB decoder!

Not in Chicago, but if you are willing to drive to New Jersey, this is what Ron from streeteffectz.com did for me:

I finally converted my non navigation 3.2 TL 2000 to a 99 navigation system. My next project will be the PSII conversion or video on navi. When ever someone finds the part let me know asap. asifhakeem34@hotmail.com

hey pang
yo I found a place in Miami that says they have done the conversion on acura's. First shop I've heard of down here, going to go check it out. Anything in particular I should ask about? Also I was thinking of getting Xbox? Is their any big differences than getting a regular dvd player? How much should the conversion run me?
I appreciate the info? I used to live in Jersey and just moved down to Florida like 6 mos ago. I'm regretting moving since I learned of streeteffectz. Your truck looks hot.
Thanks for any answers you may have....

The XBox would work like any DVD player. However, you'll need to find a place to put it. It probably won't fit under the seat (it's pretty big). The DVD player I got was made for mobile applications therefore it's only 8x6x2 3/4. It fits under the seat facing forward therefore it's very accessible from the driving position. If you put the XBox somewhere else, it may not be as accessible. My DVD player also plays MP3 CDs, so don't know if that's important for you, but it sure makes it convenient.
Ask them if they have the Pioneer AVC-RGB1 converter, a must for Navi conversion, unless you use the other solution that requires a separate monitor.
The average conversion charged has been $200 - $300, on top of the $120 - $150 for the converter itself.
If you'd like, you can add a TV Tuner. I got a Santeca ST-1000 for $199 at www.lightav.com . It's got 3 inputs, therefore I use input 1 for the DVD player, input 2 for my backup camera, and input 3 for PS2 (it fits under the driver's seat towards the back, it's smaller than the XBox) or camcorder, or in the future a baby camera. Therefore, using the TV Tuner, I can select one of the 3 inputs that show up on the screen.
The attached link has a more detailed explanation of what I did:

Hope this helps.

Composite to RGB Transcoder
I was looking around on the internet for something to replace the Pioneer AVC-RGB1 and found something that might work. It's a lot bigger but might allow more capabilities. Check out the specs: http://www.avtoolbox.com/cmt-7.htm
Anyone think this might work?

Without replacing the headunit, the Navi voice still works also, even with the Video on, something very userful.

I have brand new replacement decoders for the RGB1 if anyone is interested. These, however, also allow you to adjust brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation for an even better picture. If you are interested, email info@streeteffectz.com or call 732-388-7000

I found this the other day... I really thinking about hacking up my wires to try this.

Has anyone come up with a better solution for the audio from the FM Modulator? I have a Clarion unit and the sound sucks....too much hiss (some probably from the inverter) and you have to have it about 3/4 up to be able to hear it decently.

Two Things.
Why not use a small P.C. instead of a DVD player, T.V. tuner, etc? You could add a T.V. tuner to the PC, Store LOTs of MP3s, play DVDs, and games. It would almost eliminate the need for a changer which would free up the changer audio lines for the audio. Best of all, VGA output is by nature RGBS, so a converter is not necessary.

Acura Navi - shaynegraham
Shaynegraham,
Who did you have do your installation and how much did it cost? I am in Nassau County, Long Island and would love to find someone local who is willing to do it for a decent price.
Please advise, thanks!

NAVI output using a computer
Someone had asked "why not use a computer" since it has rgbs output anyway. Well I have actually tried this a while back, and I just could not get the correct hv/sync from vga out to drive the navi display. Before the start of the project I had measured the composite sync frequency but I cannot find that piece of paper, and cannot measure again as my oscilloscope is now broken. Does anyone around have a decent scope and would be willing to take some measurements of the composite sync from the navi?
Also as a side note, regular VGA has separate horiz and vert. syncs and these have to be combined (http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/c.../vga2rgbs.html[/url]> )
My project also involves using the touchscreen and the various controls on the navi to interface with a computer. Does anyone have any specs on what the DATA line connected to the navi computer is?
Otherwise I was thinking of adding a separate touchscreen with its own controller to act as a serial device for my trunk computer. Any thoughts?

Guys,
Great discussion so far. I have an 02 TL-S Navi and want to do the Navi to video conversion. I cant find the RGB1 adapter (as you already know) but did find this at the link below.
http://www.converters.tv/products/co...erters/42.html
Maybe one of you TV gurus can check out the specs to see if it might work. If so I am willing to be the guinea pig and order it up, but I dont know about the compatibility and all that sync stuff (ill have to read up on it)
Anyone have any feedback on this???
Thanks,
Mark

Hello Guys,
I just picked up my tl s-type 2002 from the shop. I have my nav monitor hooked up to a dvd and a tv tuner. Best of all I did not have to cut any wires. I also have head rest monitiors which rcv the dvd, ps 2 and the tv input. I"m still trying to produce the ps2 o/p on the nav monitor. The av/video tuner controller and adapter was about 600 dollars including shipping. These are specially for acura's! check out www.avelectronic.com
