Wheel opinions

as many know, I bought a mint 04 TL base back in October, with 16K miles on it.

amazingly, I succeeded in curbing 3 of my 4 wheels and its driving me nuts.

ive decided to either:
- buy a new set of (reconditioned) stock 04 wheels and swap my tires and TPMS

OR

- buy a set of Type-S wheels and swap my tires and TPMS over and keep my rashed stockers and mount some winter/snow tires on them

opinions?

for reference, its a nice and shiny 04 TL with a small deck lid lip and tint all around.

No offense, but I'd wait until you get used to the car dimensions instead of getting new wheels and messing them up with curb rash...

only because I know that 3 months is not long enough to learn your car.

why not just get your 3 wheels re-done instead of buying new ones?

i agree! I did the same thing you are thinking of doing. bought a set of brand new type s waffles, not the reps lol. had them on for maybe 2-3 months, managed to curb the passenger side one, the driver side one got mangled in one of them mechanical car washes (NEVER AGAIN) and sold my OG OEM ones as they were really bad when I bought the car.

Long story short my type s ones need to be refinished now

^^ well the one here has like a mechanical boot thing that your drivers side tire goes in. I must have been too close to the edge of it and when I got out of the car wash the lip of my rim was gouged

Lol at learning the dimensions of the car.... I've owned an 03 Type-S (then new, Aegean Blue Pearl) along with about 15 other cars (Maxima SE, countless 5.0's with the ROH ZR's which were the shit back in the day)

So, "learning the dimensions" isn't an issue..... One of the three fell victim to a car wash too, and I've likely been driving longer than some of you have been breathing.

Thanks for the input though.

And having mine refinished has been quoted at $150-175/wheel which to me is insane

I was quoted 150 per wheel locally as well for powder coat! so basically 7bills taxes in, from a real quality shop... not too bad but not great price.

And fuck car washes eh! Ill never go in one of them again as long as live.

Hey don't get all on our asses, it's not an insult, plus you're the one that has messed up your wheels.
I'll be honest and say I'm not a stunt driver and I can't park in parallel in a split second, but I just take my time and make sure I don't hit the curb. I've done it before in old junkers.

Edit: Also ouch WDP TL-S 02, that sucks. I don't think there's any mechanical ones near here anymore though.

My bad. I thought TPMS was mandatory in 04.... But it was 07 (I think)

I was asking opinions on refinishing my stockers or getting TL-S wheels..... Not having my balls busted.

This obviously isn't the community I thought it was.

Thanks for the non-dick replies from those who gave them.

I'll also be looking into the Hyundai Genesis 19"s now too that i saw them.

Anyone who has input is welcome

If you like the wheels, refinish them. A reputable / decent wheel shop should only cost ~$50/wheel. Otherwise you can DIY. Not difficult. If you want a new set of wheels, whatever floats your boat. Tons of threads with different setups. You could also sell your wheels.. probably get 400-600 depending on the tires.

^like majofo said; we've already gave you help.

you can DIY refinish.
send them out to be refinished.
buy new wheels.
buy used wheels.
buy aftermarket wheels.

There is literally SOOOO MANY options for you.

but whats to say that you wont fuck them up again, being a new TL'er and all?
p.s. it took me quite a while to get used to the TL, and even then the dimensions were still weird, and I came from a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500
