18x8.5 Aspec wheel color
I'm currently looking at a set with some heavy curb rash and contemplating fixing them myself or having them done by a shop for $100 a wheel. Has anyone had any luck with matching the gunmetal color and if you have what brand and color did you use?
Thanks
Thanks

Dupli-Color GM 435 Light Gray Metallic is a direct match. I used that as touch-up before I had my wheels powdercoated.

I use this to touch up my wheels also ^^^^
Perfect match.
Now if they were to be refinished in GM 435, I don't know how well it will match the original colour.

when you touched them up did you use the touch-up paint pen or a spray can? I am unable to find the gm 435 in a spray can as i am redoing the entire set of rims.

So I have been working on these wheels and decided to go with a color more like the waffles. Here is a befor and after shot, I think they came out looking really nice. Just need another coat or two of clear then a wet sand and a polish. Not bad as I only paid $175 for the wheels.

Used 80,220,2000 grit sandpaper and a sanding block
2 cans of dupli color primer filler
5 cans dupli color paint (color of your choice)
2 cans of dupli color wheel gloss clear coat
Body filler/bondo of choice
Is what I used
Tape off the inside of the rim that you do not want to get paint on.
80 and 220 to get All the curb rash and imperfections in wheels out, sanding it down to get it smooth but not enough to take the gouges out. 80 first on the major stuff then clean it up with the 220.
Then I used some filler to fill in all the imperfections on the rims and then sanded smooth with the 220. I took it back down to where I only had just the filler in the rash area as to leave as little filler on wheels as possible. Be sure to sand or scuff up the entire surface you are wanting to paint.
Clean off all the dust from sanding then be sure to clean with a wax and grease remover and apply the primer. After it has dried take your 2000 grit and wet sand it to get out all the imperfections be careful not to sand off your primer. I did about 3 coats befor I wet sanded.
Next is your color. Same process as primer, Wax and grease remover entire surface, paint ( I did a can a wheel just to make sure I had good coverage). I did not wet sand after this step.
Last step is clear coat. Wax and grease entire surface again, 3 coats of clear and then wet sand and buff wheels to make them smooth as glass and get the orange peal out.
The entire process has taken me about a month as I am just doing it at work during my lunch hour which leaves plenty of dry time for the painting which is key.
I will post final pics up after the final wet sand and buff as I just cleared them today and want to give them the weekend to dry.

Going to try and get tires and get them on the car tomorrow.
Will try and post a few after shots, but no tires on the rims I bet makes it 100 times easier

I put about 30 miles on them this weekend and they feel really good but that's comparing them to some wore out kumho ecstas. They are quiet and have good grip

Check back in one year from now.
Hate to suggest checking back in after one year. Reason is that I have painted wheels and cars a lot over the years. Used Duplicolor 3 times:
1. Used it on a set of BMW wheels. Three coats like you to get it laying right. The clear yellowed and checked after about a year.
2. Shot another set and only used 2 coats. Sold the car. Figured that the clear checked because of the extra heavy coat.
3. Third set were wheels just like yours. Used 2 coats clear. Turned out just like yours...
1 year later - they are checking.
These wheels are truly attracted to the curbs by the way - next set of tires will be wider to get some protection or have the curb guard...
My wife drives it most of the time. But I must say that all 4 drivers have hit curbs... Including ME.
