TSX owner, would the TLS be a big upgrade?

Wanted the TSX badly last year and ended up with an awesone condition in and out 2008, right now its sitting and 174k and runs beautiful, I absolutly love the car, only thing I wish it had was more power.

So I started looking into TL’s and they look great and with the V6 im sure they move!

then I saw the TLS and fell in love, I absolutely want it as my next car, seems like generally its similar, I would be upgrading to a similar car but bigger and more power.

Think its worth it? Or just keep saving and try to get a TLX eventually a few years from now, the TLX A Spec is damn sexy but I still love the TLS and it seems like they are worth a good amount, mint and low miles seem to be from 11-16k generally.

While not everybody around here may agree, the 2007-2008 TL Type-S 6-Speed Manual is by a fair margin, the best of the three cars you've listed above.

Midnight Mystery 01-03-2019 07:14 AM

TSX is more nimble, more of a tuner car, biult in Japan and more reliable. The TL TypeS is supposed to be a hoot! Why not flash and bolt your TSX? Why not get an RDX, a TSX crossover, or a 4G. How about that @horseshoez , care to disagree?

Nah, OP! You'll LOVE the TypeS, I hear it's awesome!

horseshoez 01-03-2019 07:36 AM

More reliable because it is built in Japan? Care to provide any support for that statement?

90foxnotch 01-03-2019 09:42 AM

Before I bought my TL-S 6mt, I was really interested in the tsx, good looking sedan with a reliable motor. That I believe has a k24? Which is a great motor and powerful for what it is. That being said I knew I did not want to heavily mod the 4 cylinder so I went with the TL. The TL does have plenty of power and torque but keep in mind it is a 3,500 lb car definitely not a race car, it can still handle well with good tires and suspension but not like the TSX probably. It really matters what you like. I'm a quarter mile guy- straight line fun -so I chose the TL because it can run 14s stock. I never plan to take this car to the track but it's nice to know its got some power. After owning mine for about a year I have zero regrets

dopeboy1 01-03-2019 09:51 AM

Why not look for a v6 TSX?

justnspace 01-03-2019 09:55 AM

the v6 TSX is essentially a TL. but newer.

the v6 TSX has everything the TL has but newer, as the TSX was built off the TL's backbone.

if you compare components, you will see they took everything from the TL and turned it into a TSX.

im sure the V6 TSX is an awesome car in and out but in the looks department the TLS wins hands down for me, hard to find a sexier car in its class imo.

TVL65 01-03-2019 01:44 PM

Wait for the TLX Type S which is now being tested. Reportedly will have a Turbo.

yeah, you'd probably get laid more if you get it: https://acurazine.com/forums/dating-...t-laid-975203/

Japan manufacted units tend to be more solid in the long run, a proven fact within the Honda/Acura family, confirmed by my local tech/service advisor and many on Honda/Acura forums.

This makes for a cool, rare little car!

Sorry, you seem to be in the habit of making claims like this, typically with little supporting evidence; here's your chance, care to provide some?

You want me to research and privide evidence something that most members here and many shops will confirm? Why? People have been saying this for 20+ years now?

Personally I couldn't give two craps what other people say, I much prefer hard data, and unless I miss my guess, you have none.

Most facts are known and not recorded.

I am not trying to start something but the built quality on the TSX and the RL actually some what surpass the TL, in one of which area are the seat and dash board. I test drove plenty of TSX with 200k miles and the seat does not have rip, they are hard as hell but does not rip.

The RL seat is the same way and yet there are no knowing rattle except by the select lever and the famous arm rest leather cover issue despite my RL being a 06. Meanwhile ALL four of my TL suffer from that famous rear right deck rattle, 3 of the TL start to have bubble on the headliner.

Broken cup holder lid on all 4 of them, HFL all bite the dust. My 4 TLs mileage ranging from 48k miles to 143k miles.

3G TL interior is no slouch but once you driven enough entry level to high end luxury car (GS350, LS430, LS460, Inifiniti G37, IS350, RL, TL, TSX) you will see where the difference, of course the TL interior is pretty good for mid $30k car (new).

The thing is, those items have nothing to do with being built in Japan versus Ohio. Those items you listed are design related issues and not assembly related.

agree about the material choice by the design team, but my initial though was the TSX would have lower material quality than the TL but in reality it different story. On the other note how is your TL doing? I just got my own MT so still learn all the quirts that MT TL offer.

Yeah, the TL 6MT I have is doing great, I'll flip over 150,000 miles on the way to work tomorrow and it runs like a top. :)

The only issue that I have with my MT TL is that front tires spin too easily lol, I guess I will have to adjust the throttle input accordingly :D

You, sir, have a lead foot! lol Something I learned to do since I started driving manual cars is to tap the throttle instead of holding it at certain position when getting off first gear. Tap more rapidly to bring up the RPM as opposed to pressing it down. Give that a try.

It's fun when you corner super fast, then drive at the speed limit after. Gives off that "sleeper" effect!

truonghthe 01-05-2019 11:58 PM

lol talk about sleeper, people believe me when I told them "check out my IS250"

Rawdog0 01-06-2019 09:37 AM

So will the TLS drive like a boat compared to the TSX? Obviously it will kill it in a straight line but how about curvey mountain roads? Going around corners quick? My TSX is auto but its still fun to drive.

Of course! You'll really enjoy it. It may be slightly "bigger feeling" but it shouldn't be too bad. I'm just remembering my old 2008 TL and how I really wanted a 2008 TSX instead.

Sorry, the analogy is irrelevant; your 2008 TL was the softest sprung 3G TL made, and from the sound of things, it had suspension issues. The 3G Type-S models had the stiffest suspension of the generation, and when comparing the two, your former 2008 would wallow like a pig in comparison.

I know. I toyed with the idea of going with TypeS shocks for a while, then just never did it.

For what it is, the base has tons of conering grip because of the 235 tires and double wishbone suspension. I feel like a fool for trading it but I guess I had a reason to, atleast, back then.

1black_seven 01-06-2019 12:03 PM

I wen't from a 96 Prelude to my first Type-S. It's a hella big boat and the turning radius is pretty wide. But the TL is still pretty nimble, and I enjoy way more.

truonghthe 01-06-2019 12:06 PM

The suspension from the 07 Base compare to Type S is like day and night, I have them both and notice every time I switch between the 2. So I got a TL MT, Base and Type S, surprisingly the MT handle similar to my Type S even tho its a little bit softer than TL-S.

Recently bought a TL-S and also came from an Auto 2006 TSX. TL handling and power is so much better. The TSX is a nice car but in stock form the suspension is way too soft and the 4 cylinder with AT struggles to get up to speed. In regards to what others have said about quality, not saying made in Japan is better but just from what I've notice the TSX feels more solid. No rattles squeaks, or any problems at 75k miles.

Nice, is your type s auto or mt? Would be awesome to get a mt type s but they seem a bit rare.

I cant wait to get one!

Rawdog0 01-06-2019 04:11 PM

As far as this whole Japan vs X Country debate, I have always found items from Japan extremly well made, whether it be cars, musical equipment or electronics in general, I’d take Japanese built over most.

Auto. I'm from Canada so a low milage MT was impossible to find. Nonetheless I really like this car and will be keeping it until the next Type S. Goodluck

Rawdog0 01-06-2019 05:03 PM

Question guys, how hard would it be to learn MT on a TL?

been driving for 3 years and am a good driver, picked it up really quickly, is MT really that difficult?
