Strictly a question
So, driving home at 3:00 am in the morning. Some guy in i would say a 2012 hyundai elantra. Pretty much kept behind me on the right lane (i was on the left) while cruising down the road. I would say i was about a car and a half length ahead, he then floors his car and as hes going by me, i floor my car but he passes me and keeps going further.
Im asking strictly on the basis on wanting to know what happened. did his 145 hp car blow by me and kept going because he floored his car first? Or is my transmission going bad or getting old and can produce the power?
Would this have been different if we had both been on the line together? As i said, don't want to startle up flame, just want to know what happened.
Gist:
1. he was about a car and a halfs length behind me on the right lane while we were cruising
2. He floors it and goes
3. i floor it but couldnt catch up fast enough
4. WTF moment for me????!!!?!

6MT Type S > 6MT Base > Auto Type S > Auto Base (this is fastest to slowest)
Maybe his car was some how modded?
If yours is an auto you should have tiptroniced before flooring it and chosen a gear that would have had you coasting at about 4000 rpm, if you floor it like that, you would have gotten the power immediately with no lag but you also need to be ready to shift at around 6500. Sounds like a lot to process in the heat of the moment so just quickly swap to tiptronic and immediately down shift and floor it. Might need to down shift twice. This would put you at high rpms immediately.
Maybe that would have helped you come out on top. How are your tires btw?
Was your vsa on?
What speed were you guys rolling at?
It's also important to note that elantras have a sports version. Maybe it has more hp than the base model? They are very basic cars and lack luxury so it's probably a lighter car.. maybe it's power to weight ration gave it an edge?

I searched the specs of his car. 145 hp. And 131 lb feet of torque.
I put my VSA on yeah. Tires are a bit low on tread.
I was cruising at about 80 kmh. He was probably less than that since we were cruising and he was behind me.

I'm sorry for ding dong. He had to find out the hard way, that the TL is not a race car.
