Sell 2006 TL Stock for 2007 Type-S?

While I have an offer at a local dealer for $16,850 for my '06 TL Stock w/ Navi, I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to keep my TL and add parts to it such as exhaust, lights, ect, or sell it at that price and pick up an '07 TL Type-S just shy of $20k? The TL listing can be seen here.

If I dropped the extra few grand on the Type-S, I would be keeping it stock for a while until out of college at the earliest.

Tips? Thanks guys!

Check the car fax first before making any decision but sounds like a good trade to me

Is the Type S equipped with MT? If yes then this is a good trade

Both are automatics. The city I live in is terrible for traffic and lights and a MT is impractical.

I guess. You're paying an extra $3-4k for a little bit more power and a few other things. I've done a similar thing in the past and it just felt kind of pointless.

Its only a "good" decision if the extras are worth it to you. I would not. I would only consider it if it were a MT because there are even more upgrades. But another $4k for used first year TL-S with a little extra power, more fake chrome, and red lighting would not be worth it to me.

if it were MT, then it would be an awesome trade up.

Tough call Brandon. If you have the resources to do it, it's worth considering. So many people upgrade their Base TL with Type S mods, so it all depends.....

The Type-S has a 3.5 liter and many upgrades. I would highly suggest getting the Type-S instead of pouring money into the 06 TL. I have done both. I have owned a new ASM 2006 TL Nav, auto. An ASM 2007 Type-S auto. And a WDP 2006 TL Nav Manual. I poured $10k into my 2006 WDP manual TL and LOVED the car, but I LOVED the Type-S much more. I personally would not buy a regular TL if you can swing the 2007 or 2008 Type-S. They are awesome. Just my 2 cents bro.

^^^"Love" is a hard thing to measure...

I LOVE my 04 manual...wouldn't mind a type S, but I ain't paying taxes again on the same basic car (please don't bore me with the differences, I'm well versed). I was in the same boat but the difference was more like 15K to upgrade to a manual Type S...walked away...but at 3K, I'd consider it.

Plus, lesbianas, whether you've got a type s or a base...you're pouring the same amount of money into modding it.

wheels: both
jpipe: both
tints: both
camber kits: both
led upgrades: both
type s tails: ok, you got me
type s rear sidemarker: again, teabagged
suspension: both
sway bar: probably both
lower fogs: fk me, i'm going to get a type s
modded headlights: both
short shifter: both
audio upgrades: both
...that is all for now.

Color inspired me more than the fact that it was a type S.

ha ha...Steven, you're so old fashioned!
You don't watch Jersey Shore, I take it.

They would keep saying "Let's be honest" referring to these two girls that would make out every time they were drunk...but they'd word it "Lesbianas"...

PS...red sarcastic, but not sure you were kidding about the context.

^^^ Buddy, I figured it might have just been a typo on your part. I was just giving you a hard time.

What kinda mods are you looking at that will cost thousands?

I would rather drive a stock Type S than a modded 06.

IMO, trading up for an auto Type S isn't worth the cost.

Well he already owns a TL, which is probably 96 percent of what the Type-S is.

Since the Type-S is supposed to be the sporty model, I just don't think it's worth trading up for an automatic one.

Just my opinion that he asked for.

jungy, was just asking for clarification...I find it funny how much we convince ourselves one way or the other.

I have an 04 6MT...slightly modded.
I drove the type S 6MT and was not inspired to spend a LOAD of money on it. (3K sure).
I drove an auto AWD 4G and also was not inspired to spend almost 40k.

Be happy with what you got...the creditors (what the US and A is runs on) are counting on that NOT being the case.

you know, it's Thanksgiving and all.

No problem. My friend used to have a modded auto Type-S. Although my TL looked plain compared to that, I would take my 6MT anyday. So I guess transmission matters quite a bit to me. I just wish mine had more newer features.

Here is an opinion from someone who has personally done the base to Type S switch....well hell, I have also done the auto Type S to 6mt Type S switch as well lol. Yes I have had a total of 4 TL's in my time.

Im only going to talk about cars here you know what else is going on in your life such as school and other finances so you be the judge of that. Speaking strictly cars yes the Type S is worth it over the base TL's, and especially so over the older 04-06 cars. Not saying they are bad cars by any means because they are great, but to me, the Type S just felt different to me compared to my base model. Now the 6mt Type S is a blast to drive and noticeably quicker, but if you deal with traffic then you will likely get tired of it pretty quickly.
