As seeing so many people have the cracked lower control arm bushings, I took a look at mine and found the same problem.

Called a couple of dealers around and get a quote around 360-450 just for the labor plus an alignment (really necessary?). Feel like this is a rip off.

Can anybody suggest a reasonable price to get them replaced? If you happen to live in DC metro area, I will appreciate it if you guys can recommend a good shop with decent price.

^^^ That's not out of line for Dealer service prices IMO, just a fact of Dealer pricing. Check a couple of Honda dealers and some Indy shops to find a cheaper price.

You might also want to consider the Fastline Compliance bushings as a replacement, but they are about $240 more than the OEM bushings.

 

Labor should be in the 200 - 225 range for a good independent shop. An alignment is never a bad idea after suspension work. However the mount points of the front lower control arms are a fixed position. Your alignment should not change. I don't suggest alignment after doing the bushings, unless I feel the car had an alignment issue to start with.

 

I did labor myself. and $15 each bushing to press it out at a local shop. So all in all, a $30 fix

 

An alignment is *always* suggested after any type of suspension work is done...except for a rear sway bar.

just curious: how many miles to you have on it?

 

Mine went out over the summer, decided to get it repaired before school started back up. Mileage when it went was ~ 53k. Local Honda dealer charged $380 OTD. Went back in the next day for a broken alternator...

 

Really gotta hate that when you go in for one thing and the next day or even driving out something else starts to go south.

 

Yeah, it was unfortunate that I mentioned when I dropped the car off that there is a very odd whine at low idles and they "found nothing". Next day the car comes in on a flatbed... they felt so bad they reimbursed me with free oil change.

 

I recently had this problem. You may replace the bushings, if you have the tools and time. Or, you can go on eBay look up lower control arm assembly. Prices range for the bushings from $60-$120. A shop can do arm assy $60-$100; think about, its easier to replace arm then bushings.. But the shop will charge you more if its only bushings. Plus, local auto stores sometimes do not have in stock sometimes its a *special order*

sorry to wake the old post but why is there no instructional video? When i search for a vid for a 2005 tl, all i get is a video for a shit honda fit... on a scale os 1-10, how difficult is it to replace the LCAs? Is a floor jack and stands sufficient?

 

if anyone wants to take this on themselves I have a brand new tool for sale. I had the intention to replace the bushings myself but after my passenger axle snapped I took the car to the amazing Paul Sobstyl and had him do it during the axle replacement...Asking $125.00 including shipping.

Pushing out bushings is universal. As long as you have the right tools there's nothing special for the TL. Removing the LCAs is also pretty universal across Honda's as they shared similar set ups. Plenty of videos on youtube. Look up eric the car guy.

Mine are actually torn at the moment and I'm most likely just going to replace the LCA. There's two bushings (front one is the problematic one) and since I don't have the right press tools, replacing the whole arm is a considerably easier and faster DIY job.

Since you're having a shop do it, I see no reason to replace the LCA unless it's damaged/bent. Save yourself some money, They should be able to easily press out the old and on the new.

 

They're being lazy if they want to just replace the whole arm.
