New windshield needed..Is PPG the same as OEM??

So, got the car back from the body shop last night and on my 700 mile roundtrip to work, I had a large rock hit the windshield and the rest is history.

NC laws with the insurance company doesn't allow free replacement on glass. You need to use your deductable. My shit luck would have it, I just submitted a claim for having my car roll back unoccupied into a truck Well, I think i'm going to leave the insurance company alone on this one and pay it out of pocket...

The company PPG from what I red, seems to make Acura/Honda oem glass. Is this true? I can get an acoustic layered glass installed for 281. That was the online quote I just got. Seems good to me but I wanted to know what if anything at all was different from the oem one.

The Damage!

I have been told by many body shops that PPG is what Acura uses; I could have it mixed up with BASF but I'm pretty sure it's PPG. It sure as hell isn't Spies & Hecker though, although that's what my bumper was painted (Porsche paint ftw!)

Plenty of threads on PPG:

Search results for "PPG"

No one seems to know for sure. However, it appears PPG does make an acoustic windshield.

PPG is one of the premier glass makers in the world. They make some really, really good stuff, their high end energy efficient glass composites are used in the products my company distributes. I can't say whether or not they're what Acura uses, but it wouldn't surprise me. From my experience with the company and their quality, you definitely couldn't go wrong if they have an acoustic glass.

PPG is one of the suppilers of OE glass, but if your picky, it won't have the manufacturer's logo on the glass, only PPG, idicating the glass was replaced.

Wow that sucks. I have has a couple of windshields replaced for free through florida law. One of them I punched and broke myself!!! I would get the cheapest one possible. I am sure it has to have the same safety rating.

Here's the listing from www.acuraoemparts.com :

002 ... 73111-SEP-A00 ... GLASS, FR. WINDSHIELD (GREEN) (APTECH)...1... 2004TL... 750.32 ... 562.74

Is there such a company as Aptech?

I'm in the same boat (need windshield replaced). Let me know who you end up choosing to replace your windshield and good luck!

Thanks guys...PPG seems to be the way to go. What timing......Just got the car back from the shop and while it was in the shop, the inspection expired....I was going to get it inspected this weekend but I now need the windshield replaced before that can happen. Timing is everything.

You're telling me! 2009 was a shit year for most but man 2010 is a real shit year for my car. I'm glad the windshield is toast as its the original one. 174k on a windshield...I'll take it.
